19 Aug 04 - 05:49 PM (#1251346) Subject: RE: Songs about Angels From: Zany Mouse One of my favs is "Mrs Adlam's Angels" by Ralph McTell. Very much about childhood innocence. Words go something along the lines of: Sundays as a rule Us kids went to Sunday school And Mrs Adlam said Angels sit round our heads To keep us safe from harm 'til morning light is done And we used to lie awake just to see if we could see one ... If this seems interesting I'll try and remember the rest of the words. Rhiannon |

And if anyone knows the missing word below, please post it ! Angel Gabriel Norman Blake Oh my soul, my soul is a'goin' for to rest, In the arms of the Angel Gabriel And I'll climb on a hill and I'll look through the mist And I'll cross over Jordan to the Lamb And I'll sit me down in the old armchair, And brothers, I will never tire, And old Satan may sneeze, But I will take my ease, And I'll warm myself at the holy fire CHORUS: I will shout, I will dance, and I'll wake up early in the morn And I will arise as I rub my sleepy eyes, When old Gabriel's blowing on the horn x2 Oh my soul, my soul is a 'goin' for to rest Oh a rest as sure as I am born And I'll look like a blackbird sitting on a nest When old Gabriel is blowin' on the horn And I'll leave my clothes set upon the shore For I'll have heavenly garments to wear And I'll have plenty of shoes and I'll never get the blues And the angels will come and curl my hair CHORUS Oh I shan't weep when I'm a 'goin' to leave So I'll pack up my trunk and I'll go And my brother old ___ (?) don't you ever grieve For I'm going up to glory very slow. And I'll eat my meals there three times a day You can bet your life I won't be late And I'll have lots of fun when you would rather come For I'm going to take tickets at the gate CHORUS |

21 Aug 04 - 04:42 PM (#1253032) Subject: RE: Songs about Angels From: Fran Agree with BFG and Turlough Gerry Colvin has written some lovely songs and "Feathers" is one of my favourite. Feathers that could fall from an Angel while they were having a disco in heaven. www.colvinquarmby.com here is the lyrics... "So here we are, Just you and me, Watching the stars and sitting here quietly, Its been a long week, its been a long day, its been a long time, since we have been this way. Listen to the beating of their wings, Moving to the rhythm of the wind, We're lying on our backs watching feathers fall from Angels. Those Angels know how to dance, At the celestial ball, You know the rumba, the lambada and the waltz and the samba those Angels know them all, Watch those Cherubim grab those seraphim as they start to spin and the Choir sings.... Listen to the beating of their wings, Moving to the rhythm of the wind, We're lying on our backs watching feathers fall from Angels." |
21 Aug 04 - 06:20 PM (#1253078) Subject: RE: Songs about Angels From: Turlough Fran and BFG, I remember the "story behind the song" that Gerry told. He said he'd written it for his father. Anybody who has ever seen Gerry perform, can imagine that, as a child, he was hyperactive. His father had invented a story to allow him to get rid of all this excess energy: he told him that, every night, angels went to a ball, where they danced so wildly that they lost some of their feathers. So Gerry used to run around every night before he had to go to bed, hoping to find one of these feathers. T. |

Angels Walk Among Us - Julie Matthews Do you remember you were down on your luck You held your hand out to a stranger? Something in his eyes You almost recognised Something in that look changed you Took you out of the madness Somehow made you stronger I believe that Angels walk among us I believe Angels walk among us I Believe, I believe Angels walk among us All she remembers is, she was falling And the ground was getting nearer "Oh! God forgive me" she said, "please be with me In this moment it all seems clearer" With 20 feet left to fall, she stalled And her skirt blew out around her Set her down Where Angels walk among us I believe Angels walk among us I Believe, I believe Angels walk among us We get so caught up in the smaller stuff We miss the bigger picture `Til something so profound knocks us down And suddenly it hits you Angels among us It's in the eyes of the sleeping child And the mothers look of wonder It's in the arms of the one I love And the magic spell I'm under It's in the feeling there's someone here When I'm sitting on my own I'm not alone, 'Cause Angels walk among us I believe Angels walk among us I Believe, I believe Angels walk among us I believe Angels walk among us I Believe, I believe Angels walk among us |

It has the potential to become a really big football anthem!! The CD by Real Time is called "Hell or High Water" |
