19 Aug 04 - 03:02 PM (#1251103) Subject: Hurdy Gurdy musicians in Lincolnshire From: Rasener I am a great fan of any musician who can play the Hurdy Gurdy competently. Is there anybody in Lincolnshire that would like to show off their skills at Market Rasen Folk Club? Anybody seriously interested, can PM me with their e-mail address and telephone number and I will get back to them. Many thanks Feel free to use this thread for general discussion on the Hurdy Gurdy. |

I remember several people back in Brum about 30 years ago, playing the Hurdy Gurdy and I was very intrigued and fascinated with the sound and the instrument. Mrs Sooz you have always come up trumps with anybody you have recommended. So who is English Jon and whereabouts does he live? |

(Pint rhymes with hint) These are wonderful folks and fine musicians. You won't find a better hurdy gurdy player than Felicia Dale. Go to their show, you'll be glad you did. D |

Not that I've been round here for a while either... You could also find out, Mr Villan, when Pint and Dale are over this side of the Atlantic and give them a booking- some tremendous hurdy-gurdy work done there! Just looked up their dates myself and they're at the Hull Shanty fest this weekend! and at Cottingham Folk Club (not a million miles from Market Raisin) on Wednesday, 22 September. |

20 Aug 04 - 09:51 AM (#1251956) Subject: RE: Hurdy Girdy musicians in Lincolnshire From: GUEST,Jess A how come the spelling changed from hurdy gurdy to hurdy girdy? or am I misinformed about the correct spelling? btw English Jon is, by the description of him, Jon Loomes. Book him! a very fine musician with crazy taste in trousers (unless you've stopped wearing the parachute pants Jon?) I tried to find his website to link in but www.jonloomes.com doesn't seem to have a page attached to it yet... |
20 Aug 04 - 09:58 AM (#1251963) Subject: RE: Hurdy Girdy musicians in Lincolnshire From: Sooz Jess A - the parachute pants were borrowed at Whitby last year because Jon had no clean ones of his own. I believe things returned to normal when the laundry was done! |

Fantastic stuff, and they are both lovely too - I have a contact for them somewhere if you want it. And there is nothing wrong with my trousers!!!! Another chap you might want to hear is Phillip G. Martin - He is a great player, lives in Kent, does a lot of French trad. stuff. Cheers EJ (Oi! Noreen! open the bleedin'tin!!!!) EJC |
