BS: What to do about nice, friendly MC'ers.

Get to know them. Arrange for meetings when they travel near your area. Play music together. Go out to the local restaurants and have a wonderful time together. Introduce them to your friends. I have done this with regard to a number of Mudcatters, and I recommend it highly. Never was disappointed yet.

Compliment their bodhran playing. Play their fancy guitars and diatonic autoharps that you'd never be able to afford yourself. Pick them up from the Greyhound station at ridiculous hours. Insult their accordion playing. Hug them.

Even have friendly arguments in between times.

I've never met a Mudcatter I didn't get along with fine.

Make them dinner or breakfast, throw a barbecue for them, play along behind them or play for them in front of them, or admire their playing.

Post remarks to them in public threads of interest to all, admire them, say so, and encourage them to have adventures and to grow.

And McGrath, neither have I! :>)

WHat a generally nice bunch of folks who congregate here! I have never enjoyed a place more. Musicians are among the finest folks on earth. I couldn't hope to hang out with a better bunch. Thanks for being here.

Screw'em...screw'em all!! Who wants "nice"? We want "in-your-face, confrontational types. We want overbearing, sharp tongued,rapier-witted ass-wholes who enjoy stifling & choking the opinions of others with their brow-beating tactics. Yeah, that's what we want! For,in much oppression is much growth. And we want to grow! Grow! Grow to become overbearing, sharp tongued,rapier-witted ass-wholes!

"nice, friendly MC'ers". . . screw'em. . . screw'em all!

Bride Judy and I are meeting two new ones, new to us that is, next week. We are looking forward to it. We'll have a small gathering with lot's of music. HEY ... someone should start a klub, or something. Maybe ... let's see ... howabout "MUDCAT", or something like that? CHEERS, Bob

"Ass-wholes" - that's an interesting variation. As opposed to being half-arsed?

No contradiction between being argumentative and curmudgeonly and being friendly. In fact that can and should just be another way of being friendly.

Well, first off you miss meeting someone like, say, Sorcha by being at the wrong truck stop. Then when, oh, say, openmike is coming through, you make sure you're off on a cruise or something. When you can get to a MC city, like maybe Seattle, you have meetings all the time and don't get to meet anyone.

So...anybody going to be in Portland, Oregon during the first week of November? I'm flying there on Election Day.

Otherwise, shucks, 'Catters seem to be much like everyone else -- only more intelligent, wittier, better looking....

Welcome them into your home whenever you get the chance. Express your appreciation for them, and when you think they've stepped out of line, let them know respectfully. When you say something that offends them, apologize.

Most of all, enjoy them, learn from them and encourage them.

And thanks for this thread, Little Hawk. It would take longer than the time I have to give thanks for all the great people there are on Mudcat.

Any catters visiting China are most welcome to stay at Schloss Shanghaiceltic. I have had the same hospitality extended to me in New Zealand and the UK.

And I promise not too much exotic local foods, just the odd snake or frog.

We have had many catters stay with us over the past few years both from the uk and and abroad and enjoyed their company. We have organised sessions in the local pub so other catters in driving distance can also meet them, thrown dinner parties, taken them to festivals, shown them the sites of London if thats what they wanted to do....when Joe Offer came to stay he actually showed me the sites as I had only been living in London a couple of months!!!!

Some catters I haven't met but have communicated via PM and email. We have sent gifts to them and their children and I hope to meet them sometime in the near future.

Our home is always open to mudcatters when they are on their travels!

I've fed a fair few in my time too, and would hope that they do the same for others.

What to do with Mudcatters? Give 'em a suitable drink, put 'em in a nice airy corner and listen to 'em. Accept their gifts of CDs and local artworks... steal their songs......

mmmm don't think you would need to steal their songs Liz...the ones I know are happy to give lyrics, chords etc. I guess all Catters are O.K really but some just come across not so good on their postings.
Best wishes.

Liz is being too modest! Why, I've even known her applaud a fellow 'Catter on solving a particularly painful lavatorial problem, not to mention putting up with hours of verbal noodling from pixelated 'Catters.
The nice thing about MC'ers is that they're mostly just like you and me.

Screw'em...screw'em all!!

Not all. Not all by any means. There's a few with respect to whom the suggestion has merit, were I not an old, happily married, fellow.

Accept their gifts of CDs and local artworks... steal their songs......

Yeah, that makes sense.

Unfortunately, a few of the nice ones are trying to get your defenses down so that they can pounce with the need to Accept Jesus as Your Personal Savior...and when I tell them I can't, because in exchange for eternal youth, health, virility, wealth and good looks, I've pledged to Satan to sacrifice a chicken every night at midnight, and if I miss a night the universe will be extinguished...they get huffy.

Peter.

Worship the ground they walk on, for their impetus often springs forth from the mystical inclinations of the holy maveric! No makerels here, by golly...

,,,then... feed 'em well, and take 'em by the hand to a favorable spot in a room with good acoustics...

can you control the gas feed (power setting) with a knob on the handle?...is the blade dull?....is the grass especially tall and/or wet?

Ahhhh, yes.... the cowardly lawnmower syndrome... Been sitting a while has it?

So, does your mower smoke? does it rattle?
Do you wish it fought a better battle?
Check it's oil, sharpen it's blade
File it's points, you've got it made...

...unless, of course, it's on a low carb diet... which makes it run too lean... and it won't carry a torque for much of anything but for the love of you starting it again with a few too many pulls of it's dis-cord...

Back to Mudcatters:
I feed them, see to it that they have their favorite libation and a warm bed with clean linens. Then I demand a song or two. Eventually, if they behave they get lobsters with butter and cole slaw. If not, they get lobsters with butter and cole slaw.

I joined Mudcat because lots of my folkie, festivally friends were on it and found loads more of the same type of people! It's the only place (other than festivals) where I can chat with people whose minds seem to be on the same wavelength as mine. I go on Mudchat and it's the only chat room I've ever been in (Not that I frequent them much) where everyone was nice and normal...ish. And the wit and intelligence that flies around is amazing.
So...what to do with Mudcatters.....Love them of course!!!
And Bald Eagle....I don't confuse love and lust, but sometimes the two get mixed together!!!

Love Lynne

The baboon is named Gideon. He's a friend of myself and Chongo. He acts as night watchman here.
