I know it's not strictly a folk song, but does anyone have the chords to this song.
Have searched the www, but everything I have found, just doesnt sound right!.....IE
                Cmaj7
I am a lineman for the county
      Bm                D
And I drive the main road.

I'm lost until I reach that D chord to get a hold of the song.
Mal.

This is lifted from Cowboylyrics.com--so it is not one of my chord charts--but it is pretty close-- Even though the first chord is Gm7, the first note in the melody is F--that is probably where you are getting confused--If you fool with these chords for a bit, you'll be able to get it right--

MTed's right (as usual). It starts on F (M7 to F to be exact). An if you follow the chart he provided, but sub the FM7 for the F6, and sub Dm7 for the Dm, and sub Am7 for the Am, and sub 332033 for the C, I think you'll come closer.

Good suggestions, John--I haven't really worked this song up yet, but I've been noodling with it a bit--and your changes help considerably. Jimmy Webb songs always have unusual chord progressions, and it takes a bit of work to get them right-perhaps why, though the melodies were always great, and the tunes among the most popular of their time, few folks played them---

Thanks M Ted and John H. Have tried your suggestions and the song is making more sense now.
