The Folk Music Index gives this listing of recordings:

Tell Me Mama - Greenhill

Kottke, Leo. Circle 'Round the Sun, Symposium Sys 2001, LP (197?), cut#A.04
Rag Daddy. On the Road Again, Voyager VRLP 201-S, LP (197?), cut#A.01

I don't know if this is the same song, and I don't know who Greenhill was/is. I'm thinking of a female pop/doo-wop/girl-group songwriter with the name green-something, and there was a musical revue based on her life. Can anybody remind me who I'm thinking of????

These are the only words I can find,
their like the ones I use to sing when I
was a wee lad...{see, barry taylor's
web-,site for the -words + tune
Thats where I got them....
fiddle-4

I'll Tell My Ma
Chorus
I'll tell my ma when I go home
The boys won't leave the girls alone
They pulled my hair, they stole my comb
But that's all right till I go home.
She is handsome, she is pretty
She is the bell of Belfast city
She is counting one, two, three
Please won't you tell me who is she.
Albert Mooney says he loves her
All the boys are fighting for her
They knock at the door and they ring at the bell
Sayin' "Oh my true love, are you well?"
Out she comes as white as snow
Rings on her fingers and bells on her toes
Old John Murray says she'll die
If she doesn't get the fellow with the roving eye.

Chorus

Let the wind and rain and the hail blow high
And the snow come tumblin' from the sky
She's as nice as apple pie
She'll get her own lad by and by.
When she gets a lad of her own
She won't tell her ma when she goes home
Let them all come as they will
For it's Albert Mooney she loves still.

Chorus (twice)

Magic Slim and the Teardrops I don't know if this is the right band but I couldn't find the words in any of the Album track titles but the lyrics sound Bluesy.

Good luck

Tell Me Mama
by "Little" Walter Jacobs
recording of 1952-1963
from The Chess Years 1952-1963 (Charly CD Red Box 5), copyright notice

Oh, tell me mama,
who's that while ago
Oh, tell me mama,
who's that while ago
Yes, when I come in,
who went out that back door

Now that I come here mama
I'm gonna start a ragin' stand
You been out boogie-woogie'n,
there's somethin' I don't understand
I want you to tell me mama,
who's that while ago
Yes, when I come in,
who went out that back door

Now this is somethin',
I never seen before
A man is gettin' my money always,
slammin' my back door
I want you to tell me mama,
who's that while ago
Yes, when I came in,
who went out that back door

Oh, I had to wanna kneel down,
you couldn't give the truth
His hat in his hand and his,
overcoat too
I want you to tell me mama,
why can't you be true
Yes, when I came in,
who went out that back door

He came by me runnin',
smellin' like a whiskey can
My hat in his hand,
and my overcoat too
I want you to tell me mama,
who's that while ago
Yes, when I came in,
who went out that back door
