O'Brien family band instruments stolen/recovered

STOLEN INSTRUMENTS
Our family stayed in Dodge City to play at the Sawlogs and Strings Festival, and left our valuable instruments in our Suburban overnight at the hotel. (Extremely unusual for us.) As we were leaving our hotel, we noticed that the passenger side window was broken, and all of our instruments were stolen.

We would like you to be on alert for any nice instruments, an Taylor
acoustic bass guitar, two Taylor guitars, one Rigel mandolin, one
Weber mandolin, and two old fiddles. They unfortunately took our cell phone and cameras as well. We think they might try to pawn them in Kansas or Missouri, or Oklahoma.

Thank You!
The O'Brien Family Band

What a shame. I know these folks. They played with Rex, Allan C, Bluejay, Wyo, Bill Sables and me back in the summer of 2000 at my house. The O'Briens are retired school teachers who are traveling the country with their two kids playing at Festivals and have been doing so for a couple years. I hope someone can help find these instruments.

Walnut Valley Festival in Winfield Ks is coming up; some folks already there. Might try to alert them, or get a notice put up.

Suggest people forward the opening post to any area festival organizers asking them to send it to their PR mail list. I'm doing that here, as well as to a local music shop that serves the bluegrass trade.

well, egg or no, i am glad they were re-united..
and no apologies for trying to help them. I was
just passing on info that i had rec'd from a
concerned blue grass friend. better to have
tried to help than to have not tried at all!
I was basing the info on the facts presented
to me at the time..and i saw no mention of it
on their web page....which was where the notice
linked.
what did either of you guests do to HELP??!!
and thanks for sending in the good news.
I am happy to be able ask the joe clones to
change thge thread title...to "found" .
Laurel--who has a genuine name and
a genuine effort to be helpful.

Not siding with our snide Guests here, but I have to say that anyone stupid enough to leave their instruments in a parked car deserves to have them stolen!

Cheers,
Michael

You are trying too hard guest. Laurel tried to help - as per the O'Brien Family's request. Hardly embarrassing that the instruments were found and returned. Then again, why do I even bother?

I've been away awhile and find this. I had heard about their instruments being stolen and was going to post serial numbers here and then learned that they paid a reward and got them back. It doesn't sound like justice was served really but its good to see that folks here gave a hoot. And they don't generally leave their instruments in the vehicle. It was just one of those days.

NOBODY deserves to be ripped off of anything, michaelr, and it doesn't imply stupidity. Any working musician has to sometimes leave their instruments in places they'd rather not, and in however short a time they can be stolen.

Peace, Mooh.
