02 Sep 04 - 12:50 PM (#1262687) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Tapster, Drinker From: wysiwyg MMario, yeah! :~) Gotta love it-- I actually thought you did it on purpose, like if I were to type Ninet9-N9ne Bottles of Bear on the Wall or some such. (But what I was actually doing was making a somewhat creative "refresh" post in case someone like Sorcha wandered along and wanted to answer the request. Bwaahahahaha....) ~S~ |

A full mp3 file can be downloaded from Magnatune.com which says it is licensed by the artist on "the shareware model applied to music." |
06 Sep 04 - 06:48 AM (#1265149) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Tapster, Drinker From: Geoff the Duck The Tale of Ale is an enjoyable collection of songs and readings about drinking. I would recommend it as something to add to any record collection, so get in touch with Dick and order a copy. As for Tapster Drinker, the sleeve notes state :- "Tapster, Drinker. A fifteenth century part song preserved in a manuscript in the Bodleian Library." The track is quite short - about 46 seconds - and being a multi part harmony is difficult to even attempt to transcribe. It consists of several lines which do not conform to a "verse-chorus" structure. Each line is of different length and has it's own melody. It is more akin to the way a "Sung Mass" puts a tune to phrases from a prayer book. I'm not sure how it would suit an audience. Quack! Geoff the Duck. |
06 Sep 04 - 07:17 AM (#1265161) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Tapster, Drinker From: Geoff the Duck The Bodleian Library (Oxford) has a lot of ancient manuscripts available as scanned pages. Unfortunately this means thay cannot be searched for text, so I'm not sure whether it would be feasible to find a specific item without knowing what manuscript it is in. The descriptions associated with manuscripts are brief and not much help from this point of view. Quack! GtD. |
