Bromyard Folk Festival on 10th, 11th and 12th September, anyone going? I'll have a guest book on my counter for anyone who wants to sign in. Lemonade is half price if you're wearing your Mudcat Badge/t shirt.

Baby sitter? Don't we all take our kids to fests. My Joe (11yrs) will be there. He's got a friend who is helping to run a Morris workshop and he says he's going to join in and learn!

Looking forward to being there for the ***th year running, though it looks as if we may be unable to come up with a full Morris side this year (again!!).

Suppose I'll just have to drink and sing instead then.

My car has a circulation problem, the radiator popped yesterday. Don't know if the head is ok yet. Arrgh!!! Luckily I'm being lent a car to tow my trailer to Bromyard, but I'll be a bit late on Friday. (Today in fact).

See you all there.

I enjoyed very much it but I think the dance tent was moved to the wrong position, you could hear it the other venues, I and Champagne Carol will go again. Thanks for the port Guru

My highlight was Snuffy doing a schanty in the sat afternoon session. I thought you deserved to win. Cllr

Yes, the sound from the ceilidh could be heard in the Court Theatre. I was very much aware of it when Cloudstreet and the Witches of Elswick were performing on Friday evening.

Enjoyed the whole weekend.

Plenty of Morris dancing which adds to the fun for me. Caught up with many dancing friends as well as concerts & singing.

Bromyard's fairly local for me & met many other friends as well as Mudcatters, hope you all enjoyed it.

The ceilidh tent interfered badly with the quieter acts at concerts in the Court Theatre and with the singarounds etc in the Football Club. Move it back to near the bottom gate, please.

Well as you may have noticed, I didn't have my trailer there but I did trade in the end amongst the diners. Thanks to everyone who came to chat. It was fun. Thanks also goes to Tim of 'Bit on the Side' for driving me back to Bishop's Castle to get my lemonade gear.

As you can see I've persuaded Webfolk to join our band of madcats! They're the guys that entertained in the bar tent; their web site is interesting!

Yet again I have to complain about generators. Have I done that already on this fred? Otherwise the fest was brilliant. Very cosy and friendly. Oh I did miss my Schantieman tho. <8( Schantieman, oh Schantieman... (I've got a berth for a...)

Welcome Webfolk - enjoyed your playing - you guys seemed to have your instruments in your hands all weekend *grin*

Agree totally about the Ceilidh sound 'bleeding over' into the main concert tent. It was very distracting & a bit of a disappointment :-(

Now wot is all this ceilidh bashing? - have any of you observed at concerts these days?

I still have to wear earplugs at concerts (when there is no dancing or sessions)

I keep banging-on about volume to everyone who will listen - and they appear to have suffered hearing loss. Why oh why do we need such volume? if there were less at the concert there would be no excuse for it in the dance tent. and the distance would be irrelavant. Trust me I am an electronic designer. All it needs for dancing is to inform the feet. No more. Or shuffling bums in a concert. - even the beer tent had to move to reduce noise.

One year ar Bromyard when the 'lectrics overloaded, mid dance, the only instrument that could play accoustically was the saxaphone. After the earbashing, it took a while to adjust BUT the saxaphone kept going and so did we.

How ever did the Victorians manage? You know - the folk in what we call Folk.

If you disagree with me - don't tell me at a ceilidh - I will be wearing earplugs.

Should have been in the church on Sunday. Not the service.. couldn't get up so early, but the concert after was all mikeless. I found that refreshing, well doubly refreshing as it was a wee bit parky in the church, but thanks to the vicar for letting the concert go in the church when for some mysterious reason the masonic hall was not available, maybe the mason's hammer needed replacing I think he was the next to come in.

I have just come back From Bromyard. It was a nice festival. I agree that the sound from the dance tent spoilt many of the concerts in the court theatre. It was my first time there and I am not sure I would go again for that resion. It is hard to here a slow song with bass riff going on in the backgroung.

Very interesting to read you all discussing the sound levels! Why do we all put up with it from the bands? It's about time someone told them that to make really good music you don't just increase the volume!! I was not at Bromyard but at Swanage, participating in dancing, and enjoying the sessions in the Red Lion where nothing was amplified!

Cresby, I agree completely about volume. It is absolutely unnecessary to have such enormously amplified music. I hadn't thought of ear plugs! (The keyboard I'm using is a bit unfamiliar and I just typed 'rearplugs' which is a thought best avoided). Why don't we all complain to the MC/sound "engineer"/bandleader?

Sorry I couldn't get to Bromyard this year - or perhaps not, in view of the weather!   (I was up the big smoke looking after the aged parents, unfortunately). Hope you all had a good time.

The weather was fine, apart from the evenings and it was just as wet inside as out then. When has the rain stopped the singing? I don't care what anyome says, the smoke is 'darn sowf' to me. I'll never go up to it.

I agree that the high volumes are quite unnecessary. With many bands all that can be heard are the drums and guitars. It's impossible to hear the words of songs. That may be OK for pop music but this is folk and words are important. My favourite concert was the one in the church - completely accoustic - that's how I like it.
