02 Sep 04 - 09:14 PM (#1263051) Subject: Moving to Red Wing Minnesota! From: hesperis Wasn't sure whether to put this as BS or not... since Red Wing is the home of Hobgoblin Music and all. Wondering if there are any mudcatters up there to jam with? Any online resources for local music in Red Wing, Canon Falls, and/or Rochester. Oh, and we're only about an hour and a bit from the Twin Cities, too. Any info on open mics would be appreciated as well! I've started teaching guitar now, too, but can probably only handle absolute beginners without messing them up. So I'll need the name of someone to refer my student to eventually. (She can't afford lessons right now and I've never taught guitar before, so it's a good combination.) Moving there on Saturday! |

03 Sep 04 - 10:31 AM (#1263449) Subject: RE: Moving to Red Wing Minnesota! From: Dave Bryant "since Red Wing is the home of Hobgoblin Music and all" Only the US home - Pete and Mannie McClelland started Hobgoblin Music in Crawley, UK, where they still have their original shop. Hobgoblin was the name of the band which they used to be in. As an alternative to Red Wing: May the moon shine bright on Charley Chaplin, His boots are cracking for the want of blacking, And his little baggy trousers they want mending, Before they send him, to the Dardenelles. Best of luck with everthing Hesperis - hope all goes well. |

03 Sep 04 - 08:20 PM (#1263874) Subject: RE: Moving to Red Wing Minnesota! From: Stewart Hi, I used to live in Northfield, about a 3/4 hour's drive to the west. There's a nice restored hotel, the St. James, and a old restored theater, the Sheldon. It's a beautiful river town. Red Wing Pottery is long out of business, but the old pottery buildings have been turned into small shops, restaurants, etc. There's a very nice bike trail along the Cannon River that will take you to Cannon Falls. You might check out Northfield, a two-college town, for other cultural events. Across the Mississippi river and down the Wisconsin side in Pepin is one of the best restaurants in the area - the Harbor View. And before you get to Pepin you pass through the town of Stockholm where many artists and craftsmen work and sell their material. And it's one of the most scenic drives down the river. And in the winter you can probably walk across the river! I really don't miss the Minnesota winters! Cheers, S. in Seattle |

30 Sep 04 - 02:01 AM (#1284652) Subject: RE: Moving to Red Wing Minnesota! From: hesperis Well. Red Wing looks very cool. Unfortunately the place we're staying at has made me very sick with allergies and infections and my man is wilting under the resulting neglect and added responsibilities. A great beginning to married life, for sure. |

30 Sep 04 - 03:41 AM (#1284690) Subject: RE: Moving to Red Wing Minnesota! From: open mike red wing boots are the best... and the song/fiddle tune which was used for the song "Union Maid" ( oh, you can't scare me, I'm stickin' to the union, ) is based on a song about an Indian Maid named Little Red Wing. I think there was a thread on here not too long ago from someone looking for mud cats in minnesota...i can't find it now, though, but i answered that he should look in the profiles...in the' member information area listings are filed by geographical area.
