15 Sep 04 - 04:04 AM (#1272121) Subject: RE: Beverley-Sun on the move From: Sir Roger de Beverley Our first week (Tuesday 7th) wasn't great due to too small a room, a lot of smoke and lot of background noise. However, yesterday we used the upstairs (folk club) room and had a great session. So, upstairs at Nellies for the forseeable future - the Sun remains closed anyway. |

It will be downstairs next Tuesday (28th), as the upstairs room has a permanent booking for the last Tuesday of the month, and then back upstairs. The Sun remains closed R |

28 Sep 04 - 07:43 AM (#1283036) Subject: RE: Beverley-Sun on the move From: Sir Roger de Beverley The explanation that you are looking for is "pubcos". Exhorbitant rents, tied beer puchasing at huge markups etc. For example - firkin of ale from wholesaler £81, same firkin through Enterprise Inns £123. Ian, the ex landlord of the Sun, had an offer of Barnsley Bitter direct from the brewery at £45 but he is tied to buying through Enterprise or he loses his pub for breaking the contract. The breweries lose out, the licensees lose out, the customers lose out and the pubco takes a huge profit in the middle for doing nothing. R |

28 Sep 04 - 10:47 AM (#1283180) Subject: RE: Beverley-Sun on the move From: Sir Roger de Beverley Oh, and the ad that keeps appearing in the local Hull paper for Tuesdays in the Sun is nothing to do with us. Steve, the landlord before last, once sent in details of the acoustic workshop and the paper keep running it when there isn't much news about. R |
