Sorcha, its a real shame she's not that well known in England - (she is in Scotland) She's a truly incredibly talented songwriter and performer - from your side of the pond incidentally.
Well, i guess i'll have to find somewhere to buy the cd - again!

Here's my attempt at a transcription. There seems to be something wrong with the first line. Can anyone correct it?

MY NAME
As sung by Kathy Stewart on "Celestial Shoes" (2000)

Well, you tell me that I've given you (?); you see that I lost my mind.
If I go to bed and sleep it off, tomorrow I'll be just fine.
I hear the buzzing at the door; the taxi's not going to wait,
And I'm going back to where I came from, to where everyone knows my name.

There's a penthouse view of my lonely life from a ladder I long since climbed,
Where I count the empty promises, like "I'll love you for all time."
The doorman nods as I pass him by, says, "It looks like it might be rain"
As I walk amongst a thousand souls and no one even knows my name.

I have seen the best-laid plans go wrong before my very eyes:
A long forgotten broken heart I'd like to repair in time;
And I got a call from the folks back home, saying love isn't far away,
So I'm going back to where I came from, to where everyone knows my name.

Well, I paid my rent and I sold some things I don't believe I'll need again,
And there's someone new who will take my place; she's takin' the east-bound train.
If you meet her at the station, and look at her hopeful face,
Just remember she's come a long, long way from where everyone knows her name.

Don't tell her I left because I've forgotten who I used to be,
Before I was leaned on and lied to and cheated, before I gave my soul away;
And I'm going back to where I came from, where they think that I'm still the same,
Where it's carved in an oak tree, written in time: "Never forget my name.
Please don't forget my name."

"She's a truly incredibly talented songwriter and performer"

And a lovely lady. She used to take the community singing group I attended. After the group she would encourage anyone who wanted to do a wee solo spot too.

I was able to contact Kathy Stewart and ask her. (She is indeed a lovely lady.)

I sent her your transcription, Jim, and she said it's perfect except for the first line you weren't sure of which goes

Well, you tell me that I'm giving up, you say that I lost my mind
