I was told there are music gatherings at the Moosewood restaurant located in downtown Ithaca, NY.
Does anyone know anything about this?
I would greatly appreciate your help,
Thanks,
Little Neo

Ohhhhhhhhh.....I LOVE the Moosewood! I don't know much about the music gatherings (although what a GREAT place for it..outside cafe, guitar shop across the hall) but the food is WONDERFUL! The fresh squeeze grapefruit juice is HEAVEN....the carrot juice tastes like dirt but more orangey..........

Are you from the Ithaca area?

Michelle

No Michelle, I'm north of the border. I was interested in heading down to Ithica because I heard there is an interesting gathering of musicians that meets at the restaurant on a regular basis.

The food must be amazing if it is anything like their cookbooks.

My husband works in the Ithaca area...I'll have him bring home some of the college type newspapers that will be sure to have the musical scene info. There's another place called The Nines that sometimes has bluegrass/old timey performers. Recently a group called The Wilders played there....incredible performers.

I'll get you an update. :)

And the food.....SO GOOD!

This site lists the goings on at the Moosewood. It looks like it may just be from the summer but there are phone numbers and such if you would want to call and check it out.

Hardi and I met Little Hawk and Hesperis there. We had instruments along, and played a little; people liked it. Did we start a trend?????

We have an excellent hippy-era cookbook (probably from the early-to-mid-70s) whose title refers to the Moosewood -- same place?

Same place--doesn't everybody have a copy of "The Moosewood Cookbook"?

The official cookbook from the Moosewood Collective is actually called--"Sundays at the Moosewood Restaurant" because the "Moosewood Cookbook" had already been published by a former member of the collective, Mollie Katzen, much to the chagrin of the folks at the restaurant--

Not being one to take sides, I have both (and several follow ups, as well), but I think that the best recipes were in the Moosewood Cookbook--

Is it THE Moosewood tho, or are there now several? If several, where's the original?

Thanks, Ted.

I'm pretty sure the cookbook we have is the earlier unauthorized one; I don't recall "Sundays" as part of the title.

Apologies to the original collective members were apparently ripped off by their former colleague.

there have been a number of different moosewood cookbooks - at least three that I can recall.

In the early 70's when I was in Ithaca it was quite a new thing -

According to their own site Moosewood has published ten cookbooks (Not counting Mollie various cookbooks) - but I can't find any publication dates prior to 1990. Mollie's 'Moosewood Cookbook' came out in 1972 and 'Enchanted Broccoli Forest' wasn't much later then that.

I've heard both sides of the story--I was once in a writer's group with Mollie Katzen, then, a number of years later, spent a week working in the kitchen at a music camp with folks from the collective who were putting together their own cookbook, and had just discovered that they couldn't use their own name on it because Mollie had used it already--they were not happy campers--
