Lyr Req: When I Leave the World Behind (I. Berlin)

Subject: When I Leave the World Behind???
From: Mick Lowe

I'm not sure if that is the right title.. Any info/ lyrics would be apopreciated.. the only lyrics I've got are as follows;
And to the old folks I leave a memory,
Of a babe upon their knee
I'll leave the sunshine to the flowers
I'll leave the songbirds to the trees
I'll leave the moon above to those in love
When I leave the world behind
Thanks
Mick

Mick,

As I mentioned in our chat I found the song and will be snailmailing the printout to you asap. In the meantime, here is some info and the site at which I found it using the search function...the direct link is a mile long so I won't include that.

The site is from Duke University and has vintage stuff like Lester Levy's site (for anyone else who may be reading this)...

Mick,
Must've missed this thread when you first posted it. Here's what I've got. When you get the sheet music, send me a copy.

WHEN I LEAVE THE WORLD BEHIND
Irving Berlin
Waterson, Berlin & Snyder Co., 1915
"As introduced by Al Jolson."

1. I know a millionaire
Who's burdened down with care.
A load is on his mind.
He's thinking of the day
When he must pass away
And leave his wealth behind.
I haven't any gold
To leave when I grow old;
Somehow it passed me by.
I'm very poor, but still,
I'll leave a precious will
When I must say goodbye.

CHORUS: I'll leave the sunshine to the flowers,
I'll leave the springtime to the trees,
And to the old folks I'll leave the mem'ries
Of a baby upon their knees.
I'll leave the night time to the dreamers.
I'll leave the song birds to the blind.
I'll leave the moon above
To those in love,
When I leave the world behind,
When I leave the world behind.

Regards Mick Bracken

Thanks for taking the time to post the lyrics... I now have a few moments to add the second verse.

(Incidentally, the music I am sending Mick L is from the original scanned sheet music at the website. The images given there are too large to print directly from the site so I printed it using a photo finisher package to "fit page")

Mary

VERSE 2. To ev'ry wrinkled face
I'll leave a fire place
To paint their fav'rite scene
Within the golden rays,
Scenes of their childhood days,
When they were sweet sixteen.
I'll leave them each a song
To sing the whole day long,
As toward the end they plod.
To ev'ry broken heart
With sorrow torn apart,
I'll leave the love of God.

(Chorus)
I'll leave the sunshine....
