Tech: Wireless/Cell Phone Carrier

My cell phone contract with Verizon is up in a short while--I have not been happy with them, and I am considering changing carriers--any recommendations or warnings would be appreciated-I may need to add PDA capability to the mix at some point, so any comments on that and them would be appreciated as well--

We were very happy with with Cingular when they were Pacific Bell. Now that they are SBC they're not quite as good on the customer service. We tried to order an upgrade on our phone over the net and would up having to call their sales department. We got charged $20 on a credit card which was suppose to be credited back on the phone bill in one to two billing cycles. It took two letters to their President to get it done. Their "customer service" also credited our bill $20 to keep us from leaving for another firm but then recinded the credit on the next bill! The letters took care of that too.

Meanwhile we've been happy with the coverage and have hardly ever had dropped calls. Aside from the recent problem we've have NEVER had to argue about the bill in all the years we've been with them.

We'd say the moral is: Next time get the upgrade phone at a Cingular store so we have a person to go back to. We've done that before without the hassle.

We had much more reliable connectivity from Sprint than we had had from Cingular the year before. Better phones, too.

I had an amazing amount of trouble with Sprint--first related to service failure,   related to the bill--(they gave a credit to compensate for the service failure, then rescinded it several months later!)
