28 Sep 04 - 01:03 AM (#1282831) Subject: Tech: Email Gone Away- Why? From: Ebbie I'm such a Wiz on computers- as long as EVERYTHING goes right. ?;~) Get me off that track and I'm lost. I bought a new computer last week and everything was fine. Then I installed a new anti-virus program (AVG 6.0) and then a couple of days later a Google popup blocker. I believe my email worked until I installed the blocker. Now I not only cannot instigate an email but I can't even reply to one. It won't even try to 'Reply'. 'New Message' on the other hand tries to come up but hangs up a few minutes into the effort. What gives? Is it the popup blocker? I went back to the Google toolbar and unchecked the blocker and then tried the email- no change. I"m sure it's just a small problem- but I don't have the answer. Will someone please help? Thank you. I'm certainly no expert but I believe the procedure is to remove the pop-up blocker and if that does not solve the problem, go to system restore (Which I am told all new computers have ) which will put things back to where they were before google was installed. Sounds simple, but as I've never done it I'd wait for more detail from someone who really knows what they are talking about. Good luck anyway. |

From: Bill D pop-up blockers AND AVG will have a way to temporarily disable them...AVG, just right click and choose Shutdown control center.... I suspect it would be the popup blocker, but you don't say which one. It makes a big difference sometimes. Do you get ANY messages when you try to use email? And WHICH email...it, again, can make a difference. |

From: Stilly River Sage You should be able to tell the Google toolbar to always let the javascript (popups) work for the email program. IF you visit the preferences section of the toolbar you can choose which buttons you want to have in view, and one of those has to do with allowing or blocking popups, and you can adjust it there. 28 Sep 04 - 06:23 PM (#1283537) Subject: RE: Tech: Email Gone Away- Why? From: Ebbie Well, I finally simply uninstalled Google- and sure enough,I've got my email capability back. That's good- but I really want to have a active pop up blocker. I didn't find anything in Google that seemed to refer to the problem. Hate to think I might have to install and UNinstall Google every time I want to send an amail! Thanks, folks. |
