The mental picture I have of jOhn from Hull is pretty disturbing. I picture a tall, bearded, unkempt individual with a mad gleam in his eyes, his clothes disheveled and dirty, his fingers stained with nicotine and detritus. I picture him shambling down the seamier streets of Hull giving the eye to washerwomen and uttering incoherent outbursts at passersby. I picture him advancing ominously into seedy pubs, as the patrons shrink back, assaulting people who are foolish enough to ask him for a cigarette, and demanding "Whisky!" in thunderous tones which brook no opposition. I picture him cackling insanely as he types the word "rubbish" for the 6 millionth time on his computer keyboard in his noxious hovel of a flat. All this may, however, be entirely innacurate. He may look like a nice little respectable clerical chap. An accountant or something like that. Who can say? (By God, Bush DOES look like a turtle!) |
