BS: Book truck drill teams

Does anyone know of a drill manual for library book truck drill teams?

We're putting one together. Suggestions are welcome.

(If any pipers or Morris dances or otherwise might like to join our march....)

Rapaire:

What the hell is a book truck drill team? "READ! READ! READ!" "Yaaaay TEAM!"????

Somehow the concept escapes me -- wouldn't that distract people from reading???

Oh, I get it...a parade drill team using book-trucks.

Very funny.

But does it get any reading done?

Yes, reminding them we're here and very much a part of the community. Besides, it doesn't cost the library anything (except for a bit of wear and tear on the wheels of the book trucks).

Great idea--there is a big parade on July fourth here in Arlington, Texas, and UTA always participates. I'll make a point to suggest a book truck drill team!

Meanwhile, we have always suffered the agonies of rolling hard-wheeled book trucks over the rounded rocks in the library mall (when transporting materials between branches) and across the bumpy tile floor in our sixth floor atrium. It's like being on the inside of a snare drum to listen to the combination of low rumble of wheels and higher pitche rattle of metal sides as they move through the room. They finally got some pneumatic wheeled carts for outside, but not inside.

I can imagine that the empty hard-wheeled trucks on the city streets would make as much noise as any marching band!

And about the same rhythm as any School Marching Band...

Yer asking the wrong crowd, Rapaire.

Isn't there an ALA listserv for administrators?

I have always imagined that those book cart drill teams were the brain child of some staffer or another who was on a drill team -- in the service or in high school.

Do your book carts actually match? Ours are all mix 'n match.

Found this on Google: The Library Book Cart Precision Drill Team Manual by Linda D. McCracken and Lynne Zeiher (McFarland & Company, 2002)

This idea came from my staff. Our book trucks are, ah, eclectic -- but then, so are we.

There might be a listerv for library administrators. If so, I'm not on it. I'm on too many as it is: Libidaho, PNLA, Horizon, Dynix, Ipac, LCEI-L, PLA, LAMA, LITA.... If ALA wants to get in touch, they have my address.

We're going to do this in conjunction with folks from Idaho State U. -- the Director and one other. We're going to have matching ball caps, they're going to wear ISU caps.

It will be in, after all, ISU's homecoming parade.

You're on a listserv for Libido??!!! How do I get on it?**bg**

BTW, the red trucks in the second links are real purty...I think that colour coordination really makes them pop!

The "rollers" are trying to recruit a couple of husbands to pull little red wagons and kids to toss candy to the crowd along the way.

I'd really like to recruit a piper too, just for grits and shins, but it isn't likely.

we never do interesting things like that. Tho we did try a library quiz in Library Week, & received 5 or 6 entries, only 1 from staff outide Info Services Division.

Anyway, our library is so small we've only got 1 trolley & it sits around pretending to be a bit of furniture.
