Beer came somewhere after sex (and music) and before sliced bread.

Sex with bread Amos...sounds different anyway lol. There was a time when I would have given anything for a sexual encounter with a bread slicer..........her name was Marie and she worked in the local bakery.
Best wishes.

The baker told me what you do with bread.

Carol Bayer Sager....You're moving out today.

Always intrigued me that line, perhaps Amos can enlighten us?

Before sliced bread there was unsliced bread. Crusty wholemeal, yum yum.

Giok

I recall reading a theory some years ago, that talked about how historians are unsure which came first... beer or bread...   There is some tangential evidence to support the supposition that one is a failed attempt at the other, but with a dearth of solid evidence, it could go in either direction...

I think it's neat that we may live in a world where making beer came before baking bread....

The bread knife?

Oh, and sex - but preferably not at the same time.

But then sex still is better than sliced bread IMHO...

Not sure what the best thing was but the most useless would probably have been a pop-up toaster..

the most useless thing is the swimming suit; but, had it never been invented, no one would ever have gotten rich on pornography.

The automatic-pop-up toaster is definitely preferable to and far more useful than the old fashioned manual kind.

Don't forget that nearly all bread gets sliced in the end.

Types of bread that don't get sliced - discuss.

My pop-up toaster doesn't anymore, it just goes 'ching' and smoulders at me. My kettle does similar things. I think I must have lumpy electricity, either that or it's the action of the waves under the boat upsetting the rhythm of the volts or whatever.

Baguettes should be torn apart while warm, and liberally buttered, none of you slicing there I think!

I always like driving home very late at night and seeing a fox or a badger.

When I used to drink I used to love that tarry smell when you uncork a good rioja.

meeting someone you didn't expect to meet, who is glad to see you.

the cafe overlooking the Avon at the royal shakespeare Theatre Stratford, watching the swans and waiting for a play to start, listening to all the different accents from all the different parts of the world.

derek Jacobi as Richard 2nd

The tone of a beautiful guitar - the player is almost irrelevant.

writers and performers who can make you feel like a personal friend - Derek Brimstone, Christopher Isherwood.....

all this seemed pretty good to me, on a par with sliced bread.

... as long as it works properly, otherwise the old fashioned type with the flip down doors at least lets you get your food out...

Thank you obedient Mudcatters, I said discuss and you did! I must admit that fresh warm bread torn from the loaf with thick fresh butter is totally irresistable. Doesn't do my cholesterol or gall bladder any good but what the hell, you're a long time dead.
