03 Oct 04 - 11:49 AM (#1287443) Subject: RE: BS: What was the best thing............. From: Clinton Hammond I recall reading a theory some years ago, that talked about how historians are unsure which came first... beer or bread... There is some tangential evidence to support the supposition that one is a failed attempt at the other, but with a dearth of solid evidence, it could go in either direction... I think it's neat that we may live in a world where making beer came before baking bread.... |

04 Oct 04 - 09:50 AM (#1288239) Subject: RE: BS: What was the best thing............. From: GUEST,Mingulay Don't forget that nearly all bread gets sliced in the end. Types of bread that don't get sliced - discuss. My pop-up toaster doesn't anymore, it just goes 'ching' and smoulders at me. My kettle does similar things. I think I must have lumpy electricity, either that or it's the action of the waves under the boat upsetting the rhythm of the volts or whatever. |

When I used to drink I used to love that tarry smell when you uncork a good rioja. meeting someone you didn't expect to meet, who is glad to see you. the cafe overlooking the Avon at the royal shakespeare Theatre Stratford, watching the swans and waiting for a play to start, listening to all the different accents from all the different parts of the world. derek Jacobi as Richard 2nd The tone of a beautiful guitar - the player is almost irrelevant. writers and performers who can make you feel like a personal friend - Derek Brimstone, Christopher Isherwood..... all this seemed pretty good to me, on a par with sliced bread. |
