(Fiddle and banjo break) Some people are born with silver and gold Others have husbands and wives I never had a thing in this whole wide wicked world Now, I'm losing my life. Now, I'm losing my life. (Guitar break) You promised me that we would be wed On this I laidf my money down. You were seen a-courtin my best friend You caused me to shoot you down. You caused me to shoot him down. (fiddle and banjo break) Well the love of a woman is bitter but sweet Even though she turns him down The price I had to pay will come to you some day And you'll end to see your sorrow drown And you'll end to see your sorrow drown. Well, they say I have a right to my very last few words Before they pull this scaffold down A man has to fight for what he knows is right Even if it puts him in the ground, Even if it puts him in the ground. Now it's going to put me in the ground. Oh, Lordy, meeee. And it's oh, Lordy my Oh, honey, you led me to the worong. I think you'll find these a little more accurate to Ola Belle's rendition. YOU LED ME TO THE WRONG As recorded by Ola Belle Reed on "Ola Belle Reed & Family" (1977) Lord, lordy me, and it's Lord, lordy my! Oh, honey, you led me to the wrong. Some people are born with silver and gold. Others have husbands and wives. I never had a thing in this whole wide wicked world. Now, I'm losing my life. Now, I'm losing my life. You promised me that we would be wed. On this, I laid my money down. You were seen a-courtin' my best friend. You caused me to shoot him down. You caused me to shoot him down. (banjo break) Well, the love of a woman is bitter but sweet, Even though she turns him down. The price I have to pay will come to you some day And you'll in the sea of sorrow drown, And you'll in the sea of sorrow drown. Well, they say I have a right to my very last few words Before they let the scaffold down. A man has to fight for what he thinks is right Even if it puts him in the ground, Even if it puts him in the ground. Now it's going to put me in the ground. Lord, lordy, me, and it's Lord, lordy my! Oh, honey, you led me to the wrong. |

24 Jul 18 - 10:44 AM (#3939159) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: You Led Me to the Wrong (Ola Belle Reed) From: leeneia This is a common theme song from crooks and abusers. "It wasn't my fault! In fact, nothing bad I do is ever my fault. She made me do it!" And don't get me started on the logical weaknesses in "You were seen a-courting my best friend". Singing a song like this leads impressionable people to think that this rotten balderdash is reasonable. As Nero Wolfe would say, Pfui. |

30 Jul 18 - 12:38 PM (#3940453) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: You Led Me to the Wrong (Ola Belle Reed) From: GUEST,leeneia Have you ever known anybody who was murdered over casual sex? I have. It really brings home how stupid and vicious it is. Stabbed to death over a woman! His sons tried to race him to the hospital in time, but they couldn't save him. Decent people shouldn't sing songs that promote or even excuse this behavior. That's what this song is doing. |
31 Jul 18 - 04:33 AM (#3940552) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: You Led Me to the Wrong (Ola Belle Reed) From: GUEST,Hootenanny I don't see where this song is promoting or excusing "this behavior". It seems to me that it could be a warning that "this behavior" results in the death of the perpetrator. So could be conceived as a story with a moral. If you are only interested in morally good songs suitable for family entertainment then that is your choice. You might find something of interest to you if you listen to more of Ola Belle's material. |
