BS: Estaban Guitar: The Next Martin D-45?

Subject: BS: Estaban Guitar vs. Martin D-45
From: Dewey

Does anyone actually own an Estaban Guitar that the QVC lady claims to be equal (in most respects) to the Martin D-45.

The QVC informercial asserts something of the following:

Their's has lovely rosette, our's has lovely rosette. Their's is hand made, our's is hand made. Their's costs thousands. Ours is three payments of $66.00.

Wow!

Plus you get the dvd, and Estaban your smiling instructor (God's gift to Music) proudly seated, arms folded in reverance of his mighty abilities.

And you also get to watch the great master as he tries to disturb this beautiful and priceless instrument: The "gift of guitar!".

His gift EXCLUSIVELY to the rest of us.

Anyway, is this Plywood Job even playable or audible? Or whould it make a better boat paddle?

The "Master" (Estaban) plays and recommends it whole-heartedly!

Dewey

Seems that I recall Roy Clark pushing something similar, but I've never seen him play one on The Opry and I always wondered "why not?"

You may have noticed that this plywood abomination is always plugged into an amplifier. If he loves this thing so much, why doesn't he sell his Martin and just play this thing? The comparison is silly. Look it up on google and see what its competition says. It's plywood crap, pure and simple.
"Hand made" by whom? Gorillas?

Of course Clinton Hammond has a problem with Martins.

His best stuff is obviously played on a Stella C.1962

Best stuff?

Don't you have to have GOOD stuff before you can have best stuff?

LOL

Someone linked to a whole ream of customer feedback on
that instrument a little while back; sounds like it would
fall apart in your paint-stained hands (with the little cuts
on your fingers from the frets) before you could paddle the
canoe 50 yards. You might want to try to find some of the
reviews for laughs.

Hey, don't knock the late, great Boxcar Willie.

He could sing a mean train song.

What's the difference? All wood guitars are obsolete.

(I just got a CA a couple of weeks ago and am still going through new-owner's euphoria. A couple of weeks from now I'll deny I said that. But they are great instruments.)

(My cookie is gone 'cause I just downloaded Firefox and am just starting to use it. Seems to work good. Muck Ficrosoft!)

So I assumed for many years. Now I have one. Have you actually played or even heard a CA, or is your mind made up and you don't want to be confused with facts?

But that's OK. As long as a lot of people keep thinking the way you do, the demand won't get too large and drive the prices up. But don't get hurt trying to ride your horse on the interstate.

Peter.

Here's a piece about Esteban Guitars (sic) copied from the Rock and Roll Confidential Forum on line. They'd be a lot better if the damned things were made out of actual plywood...

So-called "Guitar legend" Esteban was stripped of his legendary status this week when it was discovered that he is an entirely fictional character created specifically to sell pressboard guitars in infomercials.

Allan Holdsworth, guitar legend and president of "Real Guitar Legends For Truth" released a statement on Monday calling for the immediate cessation of all applications of the appellation "Guitar legend" to the television character known as "Esteban". According to the statement, "Esteban is a fictional character created by L.A. session guitarist Dan Fernaueu for the express purpose of marketing a cheap, poorly constructed guitar-like instrument on the Home Shopping Channel."

The scandal intensified when the Recording Academy revealed that claims that "Esteban" had won "several Grammys" were false.

These charges come on the heels of last month's statement from the Musical Instrument Manufacturers Association that the "Esteban" guitar could not, in fact, be classified as an actual guitar due to the fact that it is constructed out of reclaimed materials such as discarded telephone directories and medical waste. The MIMA demanded that the instrument be classified as a toy.

I can't speak for you, diddy, but I'm hanging on to mine - I can just be a little more choosy as to where and when I play it.
