Stuff in Hull

Notice there are lots of people in Hull who post but despite being here a year I've still failed to find folk music apart from the Black Boy sessions!! Can someone give me a (reasonably) definitive list?! Thanks!

Get yourself to the marlborough club, newstead street tonight, 8pm ish, and you will find les and maggie there (from BLACK BOY) and sundry other REAL folkies. Beverley is the place really for "folk"

Loads of folkie type stuff in Hull, eg tonight there is Hull Folk Club, at The Marlborough Club, Chants Ave.
Tommorow there is a folkie type band at Durty Nellies, High Street.
Saturday there is Cara [Irish band, pipes, fiddle, mandolin] at Black Boy, High Street.
Monday-Julie Ellison at Tap n Splie, Spring Bank.
Monday=Hull Guitar Club, Marlborogh, Newstead Street.
Monday-Open Mic session, The Adelphi
etc etc etc.

Which part of Hull are you in?
Give Hull Folk Club a try tonight, singers/musicians night, all welcome.
you need directions, then ring me on 07759 668798.

PS-For them that don't know, the buses that go to Marlborough Club are the 13, 13A and 13M, they run every 10 minutes between Hull town centre and Tesco, bus stop is only a minutes walk from the club.
Last bus is at 11.40PM.

The Kingston Collective session is at the Kingston Hotel Cumberland Street in the middle of a sort of industrial estate. The bar can be noisy so if you sing you have to pick a quiet moment and just not mind it. Otherwise its a practice of tunes, mostly Irish but anything accepted. The best way to get there is by taxi but that would need early booking in fair week. There will probably be no session on Friday 22nd October.

Or venture south over the biggest bridge in Hull to a couple of weekly events, accompanied song and tune session every Tuesday at the Six Bells, Barrow upon Humber, or tune session every Wednesday at the Brocklesby Hunt in Goxhill. Lovely.

Or come to Farlington, Blacksmith's Arms, 8pm on Wednesdays for the greatest music night ever.

Strictly speaking , Farlington isn't in Hull, but we're unofficially twinned with Hull and a mere 50-60 miles from that noble city. And when the Hullites visit us, our population doubles.

I thought Cara were at the Black Boy on saturday 9th (just gone). Are they there this saturday too? What day is it and what planet am I on?

On the sessions front, try Nellies (The White Horse) in Beverley on tuesday evenings and every sunday afternoon except the 1st sunday of the month. On the 1st sunday OTM, go to the Monks Walk in Beverley.

Richard.

On the third Sunday (this Sunday coming 2.30pm) you can go to the Black Boy which has the advantage of being in Hull (as opposed to Beverley or Farlington, fine places though they are). Or you can go to the Grafton in Grafton Street and be at Hull's newest session, hosted by Cowfish. This last one starts about 5pm. Or you could do both.
