MESSAGE READS

Dear All

Well this is the time when we take a very deep breath !

In November 2006 Stan Hugill would have celebrated his 100th birthday and we are thinking of holding the ultimate festival/birthday party - this very outline planning at the moment and we would like anyone who is interested to let us know - no money no definite commitment just an expression of interest is all we are asking about at the moment so that we can have some idea of the size of venue we are looking for!

Some ideas:

It will be held in Liverpool during the weekend of 19th November 2006

No artists will be booked or paid - the concept is that this is a chance to say "Thanks Stan"

Everyone is welcome to come - to sing if they want to - to talk to chat - hopefully to look at some of the paintings etc -or simply to be part of this once only unique event

There will be a minimal charge to cover the cost of hiring the venue but all else will be done without additional charge

We have used our mailing list but please feel free to pass on this email to anyone you think will be interested

As we said at the beginning all we ask at the moment is that you let us know if you are interested and we will then concentrate on sending further information to those who would like to be part of this very special event

May you always run before the wind

Jan and Ken

Dear Friends of Stan:

I am creating a film on Maritime arts involving sea shanties. I will be traveling to England the last month of January 2005 to film some people who are knowlegdable on the topic. Could you recommend anyone? Your input would be tremendously apreciated.

It's amazing - I was talking to a guy last weekend who's doing Stan's old job at the Aberdovey Sea School - and he's never heard of the 100th birthday bash. I'm staggered.

To everyone who is interested - this is an idea we came up with as a chance to say Thank You to Stan for the pleasure that so many of us have had from his work. At the moment we are seeking a suitable venue in Liverpool for November 2006.

Nothing formal has been set and at the moment we are simply trying to establish the level of interest so that we can get the best possible venue, if you want to be kept informed as things progress please email me and we will be delighted to add your name to the list. At this stage there is no comittment - just an expression of interest in the idea of attending such an event

The concept is very simple - this is not a festival - no artists will be booked or paid to come it will be a coming together to celebrate - sing songs - chat - hopefully to see old friends etc. There is the thought that we would also web-cam the weekend so that those who cannot be in Liverpool can at least watch and join in the singing!

May you always run before the wind

Jan and Ken

I knew Stan when he worked at Aberdovey, he and my ex husband worked together. We used to go to Stan's house in Aberdovey, and spend many an afternoon chatting with him and Bronwen. I have one of Stan's paintings. I would love to be kept in touch regarding Stan's 100th birthday bash.

Martin Hugill will be performing at the 26th Annual Sea Music Festival at Mystic Seaport June 10-12, 2005. Stan Hugill was a mainstay at this festival for many years.

What a fantastic weekend that was. Jan and Ken Lardner excelled themselves with this one and the maritime community responded fantastically.
Not counting bar singarounds and Stormalong John's Friday night session there were 114 excellent pieces in the 8+ hours concert time and professional or amateur, forebitter or shanty it was all glorious to hear.
A fine setting, fine company, many of Stan's own cartoons and paintings, videos of Stan in action, a new Hugill book, 3 generations of Hugill's in arrendance, and the singing. WOW
As Jan said this will never happen again and the Hall echoed to the toast "Here's to Stan"

It's CFS' 125 birthday next February if anyone want's to try another do LOL

Its amazing how fast time flies. This November would have been Stan's 110th Birthday. Is anyone interested in getting together for an evening in London (or even an afternoon being a Saturday) to raise a glass, (or even a song if a music-friendly pub can be found - open to suggestions) or two in Stan's memory.

Other parts of the country or even world may want to organise something similar, and the thought of informal get togethers taking place around the world seem quite appealing.
