If you could dress up for Halloween as any dead folkie, who would you be?

Tatanka-Iyotanka, who is remembered as a gifted singer (among other things).

Tatanka-Iyotanka
(1831-1890)

A Hunkpapa Lakota chief and holy man under whom the Lakota tribes united in their struggle for survival on the northern plains, Sitting Bull remained defiant toward American military power and contemptuous of American promises to the end.... He was remembered among the Lakota not only as an inspirational leader and fearless warrior but as a loving father, a gifted singer, a man always affable and friendly toward others, whose deep religious faith gave him prophetic insight and lent special power to his prayers.

Well, he wasn't exactly a folike, but our daughter went as Jim Morrison last year. Looked good too! (year before she was an Oompa Loompa from Willy Wonka...I liked that better)

Oops - forgot why I was really refreshing this thread - want a costume that will be mainly accomplished by long hair; I've seen Pippi Longstocking, and a Bearded Lady, and am thinking of Medusa - any other ideas? And how would you accomplish Medusa?

Many toy shops sell small rubber snakes - get a few of those or alternatively stuff old socks.

Hey, I was Cousin It in high school! I used my own hair. I was famous for that.

Was Patsy Cline-esque last year.

Had this shirt and made myself a skirt to match--black with red fringe and a painted-on horseshoe and roses to match, with black boots and a huge belt. Looked very cute. Won an award for best costume at a 1950's-themed hobby show, too.

Mrrzy--lots of green pipe cleaners braided into your hair.

I 'did' Medusa 2 years ago - plait hair in as many plaits as it will take without being silly (mine went into 13). Get an alice band/plastic hair band. Get some little rubber snakes (I used 7 x 12" in assorted colours) and attach them with tape or glue to the alice band, making sure they stick out at all angles. Put the alice band on head, with a couple of plaits bent under it so they stick up a bit. Pearly green eyeshadow used as blusher for that snakey sheen, darker green or yellow eyeshadow, purple or dark green lipstick, or glitter lipgloss. A white sheet toga pinned in appropriate places and a pea green over tunic with a green cord belt completed the ensemble and scared a couple of people silly when they came to my door!

I'm making a genie/belly dancer costume ATM. It is in green and gold, and is taking ages with all the beads and sequins, especially as I have had to sew the whole thing by hand!
