Add: WILL YOU MISS ME Stanley Brothers When these lips shall never more Place a kiss upon thy brow When life hold's still in death Will you love me then as now Will you miss me (miss me when I'm gone) 3x Will you miss me when I'm gone. Perhaps you'll plant some flowers Round my cold unworthy grave Come and sit along here beside me Where the roses nod and wave. On a cold dark Sunday morning In a land not far away A little girl from old Kentucky Lifted up her voice to say- Will you miss me Wonder where this came from originally? |

From: Wolfgang From a xerox (don't know from which book) that gives the following information: From the singing of Woody Guthrie...Folkways FA 2483 Copyright Stormking Music 1962 WILL YOU MISS ME? When death'll close my eyelids and my race on earth is run will you miss me when I'm gone? Ch: Will you miss me, will you miss me, miss me Will you miss me when I'm gone Will you miss me when I'm gone. Come and set* yourself beside me come and set beside my bed Lay your hand upon my brow while my achin' heart grows dead. * I have J. McEvoy singing this version on a tape and he sings here 'sit'. The tune McEvoy sings to the Guthrie lyrics is the same I hear at Masato's link. Wolfgang |
22 Oct 04 - 06:26 AM (#1303707) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Will you miss me when I'm gone? From: GUEST,Pete Peterson Wolfgang, Woody was a big Carter Family fan; look how many of their tunes he used for his own lyrics! Not too surprising that he would have sung, more or less, the Carter Family version. (In John Greenway's American Folk Songs of Protest, there is an anecdote that when Woody had his radio show in CA with Lefty Lou, he got a 'grubby postcard saying "You're doing fine" from the Carter Family'-- wonder what Greenway's source for this story was. . . Woody was not always reliable when talking about himself) The "Stormking Music" copyright interests me. . . Storm King Mountain is near Beacon NY, home of Pete Seeger. |

Music, Charles E. Pratt. 1872. 1. Will you miss me when I'm gone? Tell me truly, darling, now. When my heart is sad and lone, Will your own in sorrow bow? Joy sweetly beams from out those eyes. Will they shed one tear for me, When all alone 'neath distant skies, My shadow'd path may be? CHORUS: Will you miss me when I'm gone? Whisper ere we bid adieu! All my hopes are yours, my own; Will you miss me? Tell me true. 2. Will you miss me when the smiles Of another softly beam? When some fairer scene beguiles, Will you of the absent dream? Oh, fondly speak those eyes so bright! Like twin violets bathed in dew, They tell my heart, in sweet delight, That you will still be true! |
