20 Oct 04 - 06:51 AM (#1301534) Subject: RE: Atilla the stockbroker - Adelphi Hull From: GUEST,Pied Piper Promoters, musicians and venue owners are now trying to bring Folk into the modern age. It does not have to be about Jumpers, beards and 300 year old fishing vilages. Folk is for the people. Punk in its most basic form is an expression of the people. Anti-folk is a sarcastic term used for a a collective of people this and tuther side of pond, its still folk but for modern times. Contemporise man! |

20 Oct 04 - 08:16 AM (#1301579) Subject: RE: Atilla the stockbroker - Adelphi Hull From: GUEST,guest, pied piper May I state taht the following post was not by me but by a Pratt who probably whines on about the battle of hastings, sings 122 verses of Dilly dally my little sally, has a paunch the size of Bedfordshire and can't satisfy his wife. The gig is good acoustic music, simple! |
20 Oct 04 - 08:22 AM (#1301586) Subject: RE: Atilla the stockbroker - Adelphi Hull From: Dave the Gnome I am making the following post and I resemble that remark:-) DtG |
20 Oct 04 - 08:22 AM (#1301588) Subject: RE: Atilla the stockbroker - Adelphi Hull From: Piers Attila the Stockbroker does not do traditional music but does do some very entertaining poems/songs. He is one of those writers who is capable of making highly serious points with humour and imagination. Well worth seeing! |
20 Oct 04 - 08:24 AM (#1301590) Subject: RE: Atilla the stockbroker - Adelphi Hull From: Dave the Gnome How come you a Gusset anyway PP? Lost your cookie? Not seen you for a while either - Coming to Swinton on Saturday? Give me a ring and I can pick you up. Dunno about getting you back though...;-) Cheers Dave |
20 Oct 04 - 08:28 AM (#1301595) Subject: RE: Atilla the stockbroker - Adelphi Hull From: troy Blokes original point remains valid. This stuff has no place on mudcat. And by the sound of it neither does Pied Piper since he has just rubbished 300 years worth of the music of these islands. piss off the lot of you! |
20 Oct 04 - 08:32 AM (#1301601) Subject: RE: Atilla the stockbroker - Adelphi Hull From: GUEST Yes it does. Troy, Bloke at bar, you have both proven my point of the clique, backwards thinking section of folk/acoustic that exists. Thank you. |
20 Oct 04 - 08:45 AM (#1301610) Subject: RE: Atilla the stockbroker - Adelphi Hull From: mooman Personally, I like Attila a lot and think he qualifies for this forum, but won't be near Hull, nor even in the UK on said date. Peace moo |

20 Oct 04 - 08:48 AM (#1301614) Subject: RE: Atilla the stockbroker - Adelphi Hull From: GUEST,Robert He is excellent a very good act as Piers has tried to explain. He borders across different genre so I see no issue with him being on this site. Go and see him and make your own mind up. Thanks for letting us know PP and anyone else who wishes to let us know about different acts, the more the merrier as far as I'm concerned. |
20 Oct 04 - 08:50 AM (#1301617) Subject: RE: Atilla the stockbroker - Adelphi Hull From: GUEST Why are you trolling Troy? |
20 Oct 04 - 08:51 AM (#1301619) Subject: RE: Atilla the stockbroker - Adelphi Hull From: GUEST,Pied piper Don't worry Helen I'll be enjoying myself at the Atilla (big ex friend of Mr Joe Strummer R.I.P) gig, so I won't be able to help you with any problems you may have. |
20 Oct 04 - 09:02 AM (#1301630) Subject: RE: Atilla the stockbroker - Adelphi Hull From: Dave the Gnome This stuff has no place on Mudcat? Over they years I have seen some humourous statements here, Troy, but that one takes the biscuit:-) I just sprayed coffee all over my keyboard. Are you really Attilla in disguise??? Go on - admit it! Give us that one about what folk music really is. Or the one about why we shouldn't let these young upstarts who have only been around 30 or 40 years a chance. They are all hilarious. :D |
20 Oct 04 - 09:15 AM (#1301641) Subject: RE: Atilla the stockbroker - Adelphi Hull From: GUEST,Pied Piper Dave the Gnome, Sorry mate, I'm a different Pied Piper, I'll use PP from now on to save confusion. |
20 Oct 04 - 10:41 AM (#1301750) Subject: RE: Atilla the stockbroker - Adelphi Hull From: Dave the Gnome No worries PP - All you pipers sound the same to me anyway;-0 Ducking and running... I have heard Attilla some time ago but can't remember him properly. Something in my brain is saying John Cooper-Clark rather than Les Barker though? Wish I had a few more brain cells left:-( Enjoy the gig anyway. See if you can get Sir jOhn to visit and write a couple of lines to see if Attilla can read them:-) Cheers :D |

20 Oct 04 - 03:11 PM (#1302037) Subject: RE: Atilla the stockbroker - Adelphi Hull From: Nerd I'm a catter who primarily likes traditional music and songs, but I think Atilla is great. He's folkier than, say, Billy Bragg, in that he plays acoustic. But his songs are similarly acute in their observations of current affairs. So Atilla is essentially a modern political acoustic singer-songwriter. Like, say, Woody Guthrie. Certainly within the realms Mudcat covers. |
20 Oct 04 - 04:14 PM (#1302108) Subject: RE: Atilla the stockbroker - Adelphi Hull From: ced2 If any one get's a chance to ask him about Albainian Football they should do so, perhaps he could get his correspondent from the days of News on Sunday to elucidate more about the match that he saw in Tirana. This of course was in old Envar's days! |
20 Oct 04 - 04:45 PM (#1302134) Subject: RE: Atilla the stockbroker - Adelphi Hull From: GUEST,milk monitor I saw him about twenty (gawd) years ago supporting The Jam at Hammersmith Odeon, and yes he is very funny/observant and well worth seeing. And have caught him at a good few festivals since. He has organised so many benefit gigs over the last couple of decades...miners, Wapping, anti racism etc etc etc. A tireless hard worker of good causes. And a staunch anti-Thatcherite to boot. Like Mooman I won't be in the Uk when he is in Hull, but hope all goes well. Not hijacking the thread or anything but, he is organising a charity gig in Brighton in November, for the Strummerville Charity, set up by Joe's family, all proceeds to help underpriviledged kids gain access to musical pursuits. http://www.attilathestockbroker.com/strummer2004.html Thats the link, but sorry I can't do it blue? 27th of Oct will see Hull bathed in the full moon too.....should bode well. |
