They are in Don't Ever Change, Boopsie which is exerpted from The President Is A Lot Smarter Than You Think... you gotta reread these!

Mrzzy: your "you gotta reread these" is ample reason for me not to. I seriously doubt that I would find them funny.

No, I read the books - and DougR, why not? I'm pro-Kerry and I still find them funny, even though they are making fun of him (I hadn't realized he was big enough for Trudeau to make fun of him back then!)?

I will seek URLs, though. Better to see in context than just have me quote them here, although I've been doing so with great success...

THose are funny. What I find less humorous is the bitter hard-bitten nastiness of the right-wing comments appended to them.

I have the book. Heck, I have a copy of the book of the ORIGINAL cartoons by Trudeau, the ones that appeared in the Yale paper.

My response is, "So?" Mark Slackmeyer was known back then as "Megaphone Mark", BD was BD, Boopsie was Boopsie, etc. A bit more of an innocent era, I think.

The Daily Princetonian used to run "Doonesbury" during my freshman year (1970-71). I remember that the star on B.D.'s helmet was originally a "Y."

I was interested in the comment that quoted General Giap as saying in his book that John Kerry helped the Vietcong and North Vietnamese win the war. Right below that was a comment from someone who actually owned a copy of the book...and that quote was nowhere to be found. The origin of the spurious quote, according to that person, was Oliver North. Hitler was right...if you tell a big enough lie, people will believe it. (And I do not vouch for the authenticity of that quote!)

Aloha,
Mark

Anyone who believed that a quote from General Giap saying "We came close to surrendering several times" could possibly be geuine has a screw loose anyway.

Two very funny comments in the Daily Mail [UK] on Bush and Kerry`s debates, one reader remarked that" Bush looked like a cow watching a train go by", and Kerry "had the forlorn facial expression of a dog dreading a bath".

I'd say Kerry just about comes out ahead on that.
