Steve Last @ St Albans Sunday Spotlight

As Breezy has seen fit not to publicise this I guess it's down to me to instigate a bit of self publicity!

Steve "The Ref" Last features at The St Albans Spotlight Club this Sunday evening at the British Legion, Verulam Road, St Albans. MC this week will be Christine "Moses" Connolley who will get proceedings underway at 7:47ish.

Breezy is away, but the usual array of quality floor singers, including "Fleggy", is expected to be in attendance. El Greko is at the Open Door Folk Club launching his new CD into the wild north west, so you lot up there are excused the trip down the M6 and M1 so long as you go see George.

Everyone else please come along and enjoy the evening at The Legion as I don't particulary like singing to an empty room!

Songs from El Greko, Les Sullivan, Dan McKinnon, Graem Miles and Anon Trad are on the agenda, but modesty prevents me from extolling my own virtues, so may be some other nice person will say something kind about me.

Guaranteed a good night with The Ref and Fleggie in attendance!

Sorry you are going to miss it El G., but good luck with your launch of the new CD.

My spies tell me there will be some great new songs from Steve as well as some of the old favourites.

Anyone who wants a "spot", get there early and I'll put you on the list (approx 10-12 minutes = 2-3 songs).

The following week the Club night falls on Halloween and a certain other Mudcatter has the spotlight. Watch out for a new "ghost" song.

Aren't we a modest lot!

Next week's "certain other Mudcatter" is of course Moses herself, so make sure you don't miss that one either!

Breezy's off again = Another party with the cat away! Sorry I'll miss it, Ref, I have heard the "Flowers" are in good hands/lips with you...

Seriously, Steve is not to be missed. His Paxton/McKinnon/Sands covers are just wonderful. Not to mention his blooming and fruitful collaboration with Moses (Briar & Rose to die for).

The Midlands should empty with people on their way to either St Albans or Failsworth this Sunday. No excuses!

Thanks El Greko; Yes, I've done Flowers and Countryside, but there's (for me) a first time out for one of your (almost) forgotten masterpieces on Sunday.

Don't miss Steve

He has a Martin 'like' and does stuff

It's like a mix of Pavorotti and Dolly Parton

Unmissable said 'the Sun'

When are going you going to pay us back said 'the big issue'

Hello. Yes Steve came up to the dizzy heights of Barton for      "The Friendly Earth and Fretless Club" two weeks ago and not only stepped into the shoes of the great Guru but fitted them perfectly as well, in our support spot to the just as great Anahata and Mary Humphries. How about doing "The Windmill Song" Steve, that's great as well. I was going to have a night in on Sunday, but since Breezy is away I could come down and join the party. And get a credit as well.      (I heard that Breezy)

Martin, please stop spreading malicious rumours about me wearing items of Guru's clothing!

it was only her shoes our ref stepped into, they werent the sling-backs were they.

How they tottered how they chaffed
how the big toe with the blisters chaffed
When they hear the old ref swear
Gurus gone and given you a well worn pair

Just checked & my Piggy earrings are correctly in place in the Safety Deposit Box (they'll be famous one day, mark my words!)

Am very surprised that The Ref has managed to squeeze himself into my well-worn sandals, considering that my feet are already in 'em....

Meanwhile, have fun on Sunday - anyone near St Albans should not miss hearing the Singing Referee, well worth hearing (just watch out for those stillettos, well sharp!)
