25 Oct 04 - 11:44 PM (#1307261) Subject: RE: Sydney at New year From: alison Hi Banjo-Flower, many of the sydney folkies won't be in town - there are quite a few festivals on at that time. Woodford - Queensland (really big) - hot and humid Gulgong - about 4 hours West of Sydney - nice smallish festival but really hot Nariel Creek - foothills of the Snowy Mountains about 9 hours drive from south Sydney - really quiet, sessions beside a river so you may be a bit short of folkies to meet - all the clubs are on holiday too but the fireworks at sydney Harbour are worth seeing. send me a PM if you need more info slainte alison |

26 Oct 04 - 08:04 AM (#1307462) Subject: RE: Sydney at New year From: JennyO I am seriously considering not going to any Xmas-New Year festivals this year, so may well be in town. Also, my folk club, North By Northwest, while not meeting in January in the normal sense, always has a BBQ/session on at my place some time in the first week or so of the year - probably Thursday 6th or Saturday 8th this time, I should think. I may also have a bit of a summer solstice gathering/BBQ/session a few days before Xmas. What dates will you actually be in Sydney, Banjo-Flower? Jenny |

26 Oct 04 - 10:36 AM (#1307594) Subject: RE: Sydney at New year From: Sandra in Sydney I never go to Christmas/New Year Festivals as I hate tropical hot weather & dry outback hot weather. Not that Sydney is cold, it's hot & humid, but it's a lot more tolerable to be inside behind drawn curtins with fans going!! sandra |

26 Oct 04 - 11:58 AM (#1307681) Subject: RE: Sydney at New year From: Sandra in Sydney Looks like we will have to do something between 28th & 3rd. Some years back I took a one-day bus tour of the Blue Mountains. I had a wonderful time watching the tourists. I spent so long in the Nocturnal House at Featherdale Animal Park that animals came to the glass & looked at me, a sight missed by a pair of tourists who rushed in one door & out the other. (ps. the Mountains are great, too & well worth looking at) sandra |

28 Oct 04 - 12:15 AM (#1309262) Subject: RE: Sydney at New year From: Bob Bolton G'day Banjo-Flower, Hmmm ... (pace Sandra), but it looks like your best dates are only Tuesday 28 December - Friday 31 (daytime) ... so moocowpoo's sessions (all Saturday or Sunday) won't work ... unless The Harp (Irish Hotel - 920 Princes Hwy, Tempe - southern suburb, about 8 kilometres south of Sydney) is running on New Year's Day ... and you make sure you leave the session early enough to front up for your "... feet won't touch the ground day in the Blue Mountains on the 2nd january ...". They do have a web site ... but I can't see the URL. "Harp Irish Hotel" & Sydney should pull it up on Google anyway. Don't melt in our mid-summer heat! Regards, Bob (probably sweltering in Gulgong at the time ... but I would prefer to be sitting on top of a cool mountain!) |

29 Oct 04 - 01:19 AM (#1310257) Subject: RE: Sydney at New year From: Bob Bolton G'day Banjo Flower, Rouse Hill is about 40 kilometres from Sydney ... but graced by the inestimable presence of our alison. It could be practicable on your first day in ... if you get in from HK early enough ... but it's a long haul back to Sydney ... along with a few million others heading for the fireworks &c ... on the New Year Sunday. Greater Sydney is a big sprawling lump of landscape. Regards, Bob |
