01 Nov 04 - 10:17 AM (#1313076) Subject: BS: A Civil Society Apres-election From: Stilly River Sage I'm posting this the day BEFORE the election as a reminder that regardless of the outcome, we need to settle back into our old Mudcat patterns and be civil to one another AFTER the elections. Some of us will be happy, some of us won't. That is a given. So we need to get over it and move forward, and those who are unhappy will have new resolve to get their person elected next time. SRS |

01 Nov 04 - 10:19 AM (#1313079) Subject: RE: BS: A Civil Society Apres-election From: Amos I pray that the election itself willl not generate grounds for NEW accusations and new insanity. I would like nothing better than to wake up to find the Mudcat at peace under Kerry's new administration. A |

01 Nov 04 - 11:08 AM (#1313140) Subject: RE: BS: A Civil Society Apres-election From: Amos It took the South about 90 years to get over the Civil War. How long will it take them to recover in a Kerry administration? A |

01 Nov 04 - 11:33 AM (#1313162) Subject: RE: BS: A Civil Society Apres-election From: GUEST Answer: they won't. Bush may even run again in 2008 if Kerry wins. |

01 Nov 04 - 12:07 PM (#1313213) Subject: RE: BS: A Civil Society Apres-election From: Ebbie Not just on the Cat. Whoever wins the election this year will have to address the political fragmentation of the citizens of this country. And we can be pretty sure that Bush won't. So, it is essential that tomorrow John Forbes Kerry be elected President of the United States. :) |

01 Nov 04 - 12:12 PM (#1313220) Subject: RE: BS: A Civil Society Apres-election From: GUEST And just how do you see Kerry successfully addressing the political fragmentation Ebbie? I'm curious as to how you think that will happen. Will he reach out to Republicans and invite them onto the transition team, put them in his Cabinet, what? |

01 Nov 04 - 12:29 PM (#1313243) Subject: RE: BS: A Civil Society Apres-election From: Amos I think he deserves the opportunity to demonstrate his skill. He has a lot more, and more successful, experience than Bush OR Nader, in law, law-making, administration and the making or peace as well as in war. A |

01 Nov 04 - 12:43 PM (#1313262) Subject: RE: BS: A Civil Society Apres-election From: Stilly River Sage I introduced this subject now, knowing full well that the Kerry supporters are going to be more devastated if Bush wins than the Bush supporters will be if Kerry wins. Because Kerry recognizes the schism and the shades of gray that must be included in this process. I expect there will be Republicans in his cabinet, and conservatives. The opposite can't be said of Bush--he has a close-knit like-minded cabal who will continue in place if he returns to office. SRS |

01 Nov 04 - 12:49 PM (#1313268) Subject: RE: BS: A Civil Society Apres-election From: GUEST I agree that Kerry supporters will be much more devastated than Bush supporters if their candidate loses. But that is because of the pathological hatred of Bush that has driven them to borderline mental illness. |
|
01 Nov 04 - 01:06 PM (#1313287) Subject: RE: BS: A Civil Society Apres-election From: Stilly River Sage The only one who can be charged with borderline mental illness on this thread is GUEST, who gets delight from anonymously sniping and taking pot shots instead of participating in civil discourse. |
|
01 Nov 04 - 01:11 PM (#1313294) Subject: RE: BS: A Civil Society Apres-election From: GUEST But SRS dear, your aversion with anonymity has nothing to do with politics. You suffer from borderline mental illness whenever you see the Guest tag with nothing following it. |

01 Nov 04 - 01:15 PM (#1313298) Subject: RE: BS: A Civil Society Apres-election From: Jack the Sailor "Bush may even run again in 2008 if Kerry wins." The Republicans aren't that dumb. |
|
01 Nov 04 - 01:24 PM (#1313305) Subject: RE: BS: A Civil Society Apres-election From: GUEST Correct. Which is why a Bush run in 2008 makes sense. He'll already have the organization and the money. Brownshirts for Kerry, now they are not only dumb, but deluded. |
|
01 Nov 04 - 02:42 PM (#1313378) Subject: RE: BS: A Civil Society Apres-election From: Ebbie Guest, Bush very early on demonstrated decisively that he will not heal schisms- when he was first in office he said he would 'reach across the aisle'. He never did. It got worse. Remember when he said that Democrats do not love their country? |

01 Nov 04 - 02:46 PM (#1313385) Subject: RE: BS: A Civil Society Apres-election From: Amos Talk about mental illness, and deep, divisive hatred, and bitter-minded refusal to communicate, Guesty dear -- how about calling people Nazis? IS that your way of affirming our common humanity? If so, you might want to reconsider your strategy as it is not succeeding. One might say that that degree of hatred is closer to the fringe of madness than those who support someone they see as a better hope for tyhe future because they think he might be more humane, or more competent, or more rational. 01 Nov 04 - 03:02 PM (#1313403) Subject: RE: BS: A Civil Society Apres-election From: Stilly River Sage The reason there will be difficulties finding civil discourse after the election is BECAUSE of individuals like GUEST, who uses name-calling and hot-button topics to bring the attention back to himself and away from the actual topic at hand, that of getting along again after the elections are concluded.
