Dylan's guitar, Philharmonic Hall '64

Anybody know what it was? Not Joan's slot-head Martin, which he is playing in one photograph in the booklet accompanying the CDs - the other one. Could be a straight-sided Gibson headstock (an LG?) but I don't recognise the logo.

|The guitar is a 30's natural finish Nick Lucas Gibson with a different bridge (from a Guild I believe) and a regular pickguard. The guitar is awesome. I find the Santa Cruz H-13 model to be close in comparison now.

I keep trying to post, and it always comes up blank after I hit send. Here's hoping.

As the designer of the Santa Cruz Model H, I can say that my interest in this entire type of guitar came from the very 13-fret Nick Lucas that Bob Dylan played, though I knew that guitar for several years before my friend Marc Silber sold it to him in late 1963.

It was fundamentally different than the SCGC in having a much shorter scale. It had been refinished, and the Guildesque bridge was a German catalog item of that era. The pickguard was also an add-on.

If you'd like to know more about either the Dylan guitar or the SCGC Model H, visit my webpage on them at www.lutherie.net /model_h.html

More on SIlber and Dylan and other guitars Dylan has played can be found at this page. His first acoustic was ther spitting image of Barky's first acoustic, a prewar Martin 00-17 which she still plays. His is long gone.
