a book by Michael Marmot has come out in London, citing decades of research to show that those further up the office/society hierachy live longer and are healthier. (The Status Syndrome)

how your social status effects your health and longevity

Looks to be an interesting book, freda, thanks.

My best friend has been driving a taxi for the past three years. I know it's making him older before his time. He hates it, and it definitely is affecting his self-image.

I don't mind being poor, but then it's a choice and I enjoy the challenge of living on as little as possible...but I'm nuts, so I think that itself might condemn me to live longer than I'd desire.

The more wealtheir I've become, the more unhealthy I've become. When I left School I was a manual worker, working as a gardener, I was on a low wage but managed to eat well, plus I couldn't afford to drink much and the job kept me phyisically fit. Nearly 30 years later, I no longer have a mannual job, I now work as a community worker. Compaired to my peers I concider myself reasonably healthy but compairing my own lifestyle 30 years ago to now I've declined (that's taking age into concideration) don't get as much exersise, I eat when I've got time, which means I often skip meals & I drink more. Yes the job gives me more money but it also gives me more stress.
