'Nellies' Beverley - Sunday session

15 Nov 04 - 06:38 AM (#1327152)
Subject: 'Nellies' Beverley - Sunday session
From: ossonflags

We had a splendid afternoon in the folk club room in "Nellies" this Sunday.

There was no room downstairs for us to sing and play, so the overall consensus was we would use upstairs and it was great!! (see Pistachios comments on "Sun Session"thread)

We will continue to use this room for the foreseeable future for several reasons:

!.The noise levels from the bar downstairs are putting of quiet singers and players

2.room always available

3.In the past people have turned up to play and gone away because of the lack of room.

4.We are aware that some people might see this as getting away from what was intended in the first place, but thoughts are that if people want to come and listen they will climb the few stairs involved to do this.We had first hand example of this yesterday when people from the bar came up,listened and had a great time.

5.the assemblrd company voted yesterday to continue using it.

And it is lovely room - lovely acoustic/gas lights and big open fire !!!!!!

Any other positive thoughts and/or comments welcomed.

Mick McGarry

Totally agree Mick, it was a bloody good session, very ambient. I didn't bother bringing my guitar because downstairs, I can't hear it never mind anyone else, But it would be great to play it upstairs.

Is there a proper non-smoking policy in operation or do we have to wear gas masks? (I only ask as I really like wearing a gas mask and I feel less self-conscious if the room is completely fogged-out).

Probably obscured by the pall of smoke, Linda. Could you hear anything? Apart from the smoke alarms, that is.

Linda, this week it started a little later because of the room availability, so this week should start on time.

I understood that Nellies was a 4pm start - several of us turned up for then and actually got singing by about a quarter past. We then moved upstairs about 5ish

Unfortunately I missed the session - I was asked, at the last minute, to go and play mandolin with Two Short Planks at their gig in the Woolpack on Sunday. Anyway, I heard good reports of Nellies from some people who came into the Woolpack late on.

This Sunday is in the Sun from 3pm

Sorry,    I have had a busy week and not posted . As amamber of the musicians circle (NO COMMENTS ON THE MEMBER) I asked Anna if we could have a pre Christmas get together on Sunday the 19 and bring some cake and stuff, she welcomed the idea and the coal fire will be burning, All welcome and visitors from over the pond or closer, will be given a Nellies welcome, and the beer is only £1.27 a pint. If you are a visiter please let me know as I got rollocked the other week by my better half for missing someone.
