15 Nov 04 - 01:03 PM (#1327478) Subject: Lyr Add: THE SUN IS BURNING (Ian Campbell) From: Ebbie Here's one I can't sing. The Sun Is Burning Written by Ian Campbell Recorded by Kate Wolf The sun is burning in the sky, Strands of clouds go slowly drifting by In the park the dreamy bees are droning in the flowers among the trees And the sun burns in the sky Now the sun is in the west. Tiny babes lay down to take their rest And the couples in the park are holding hands and waiting for the dark And the sun is in the west Now the sun is sinking low, Children at play know it's time to go High above a spot appears, a little blossom blooms and then draws near And the sun is sinking low Now the sun is come to earth, Shrouded in a mushroom cloud of death Death comes in a blinding flash of hellish heat and leaves a sea of ash And the sun has come to earth Now the sun has disappeared All that's left is darkness, pain and fear Twisted, sightless wrecks of men go crawling on their knees and cry in pain And the sun has disappeared Kate Wolf recording: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G7Ei_PQf2Lw |

29 Apr 20 - 09:54 PM (#4049453) Subject: ADD: Carolina Pines (Kate Wolf) From: Joe Offer CAROLINA PINES (Kate Wolf) Just an old house with the roof fallin' in Standin' on the edge of the field Watching the crops grow like its always done before Nobody lives here anymore The sun's going down on the Carolina pines I'm a long way from home I miss that love of mine broken windows empty doors Nobody lives here anymore Old memories come whistli ng like the wind Through the walls and the cracked window panes And the grass is growing high around the kitchen door Nobody lives here anymore Once there were children and a few hired hands A hard working woman and a bone tired man Now that old sun steals across a dusty floor Nobody lives here anymore Needs some work |

23 Jul 20 - 12:30 AM (#4065534) Subject: ADD: These Times We're Living In (Kate Wolf) From: Joe Offer THESE TIMES WE'RE LIVING IN (Kate Wolf) Down by the river the water’s runnin’ low As I wander underneath the trees In the park outside of town The leaves turned brown and yellow now Are falling on the ground Remembering the way you felt Beside me here when love was new That feeling’s just grown stronger Since I fell in love with you CHORUS Now we’ve only got these times we’re living in We’ve only got these times we’re living in Winter wood piled on the porch Walnuts scattered on the ground And wood smoke risin’ to the sky An old man comes home from work And he hugs his wife in a sweat-stained shirt Walks through that door to Where it’s warm inside And I’m walking as the wind Rustles in the fallen leaves My footsteps picking out a tune My heart sings silently Now we’ve only got these times we’re living in We’ve only got these times we’re living in See the roses dried and faded The tall trees carved and painted With long forgotten lovers’ names Old cars standing empty And dogs barking at me As I walk through the quiet streets the same If I could I’d tell you now There are no roads that do not bend And the days like flowers bloom and fade And they do not come again We’ve only got these times we’re living in We’ve only got these times we’re living in https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aRU9YOvqXb8 Live performance: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dNacOVmerhU |

13 Aug 20 - 12:11 AM (#4068182) Subject: ADD: Here in California (Kate Wolf) From: Joe Offer HERE IN CALIFORNIA (Kate Wolf) When I was young, my mama told me She said, "Child, take your time Don't fall in love too quickly Before you know your mind" She held me 'round the shoulders In a voice so soft and kind She said, "Love can make you happy And love can rob you blind" CHORUS Here in California The fruit hangs heavy on the vine There's no gold, I thought I'd warn ya And the hills turn brown in the summertime Now I may learn to love you But I can't say when This morning we were strangers And tonight we're only friends But I'll take my time to know you I'll take my time to see There's nothing that I won't show you If you take your time with me Here in California The fruit hangs heavy on the vine There's no gold, I thought I'd warn ya And the hills turn brown in the summertime It's an old familiar story An old familiar rhyme To everything there is a season To every purpose there's a time A time to love and come together A time when love longs for a name A time for questions we can't answer But we ask them just the same Here in California The fruit hangs heavy on the vine And there's no gold, I thought I'd warn ya And the hills turn brown in the summertime There's no gold, I thought I'd warn ya And the hills turn brown in the summertime https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DH9QnQdoKtY |
28 Sep 20 - 06:26 PM (#4073536) Subject: ADD: Eyes of a Painter (Kate Wolf) From: Joe Offer EYES OF A PAINTER (Kate Wolf) Gray-haired and flint-eyed, his sunburned face lined Grandpa was a man of few words He had a way of not wanting to say Any more than he thought would be heard The long years of living, day-to-day giving Had carved out a map on his face With little to lose, he’d learned how to choose And his choices were easy to trace CHORUS He had the eyes of a painter Heart of a maker of songs His words fell like rain on the dry desert plain Precious and so quickly gone From a long line of teachers, white Baptist preachers He was born with an Indian will His quiet dark eyes, reading the light As he rode in the low Osage hills His school was the prairie, the sage, the wild berry The quail, the wide open sky The cottonwood thicket by the slow rolling river The redbud and the hot cattle drive He had the eyes of a painter Heart of a maker of songs His words fell like rain on the dry desert plain Precious and so quickly gone There were days filled with thinking, nights with the drinking For a lost love that raged like a storm Oh, but how his eyes smiled, when he talked to a child The rough hands so gentle and warm His strong arms were brown, where the long sleeves rolled down on his faded blue cotton shirt When times got hard, he’d go out in the yard And he'd cuss away some of his hurt He had the eyes of a painter Heart of a maker of songs His words fell like rain on the dry desert plain Precious and so quickly gone Now the garden’s grown dusty, hand axe lies rusty The door’s banging hard in the wind Grandpa’s store is closed down, like most of the town And it won’t be open again And a big white car sits out in the yard Of the house he built solid and true Ah, but I see his eyes, burning tonight Like the stars in the sky he once knew He had the eyes of a painter Heart of a maker of songs His words fell like rain on the dry desert plain Precious and so quickly gone His words fell like rain on the dry desert plain Precious and so quickly gone Source: LyricFind (corrected) Songwriters: Kate Wolf https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jnkVmmuPijA |
29 Sep 20 - 03:41 PM (#4073630) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: songs by Kate Wolf From: GUEST,Don Meixner I am not a big fan Kate Wolf. I liked her as a performer and I liked her voice and especially her back up musicians. I just found most of her songs too cosmic for my tastes. That said, when she wrote a song I liked I really liked it. Trumpet Vine, Carolina Pines, Eyes of a Painter, Great Divide are four. And I can't argue with her skill at phrasing and pacing. Read through the lyrics to Eyes of a Painter and this should be obvious. It is a sad thing she left us so long ago. I wouldn't have minded another Trumpet Vine to listen to. Don Meixner |
