There is a guitar festival at Leicester Race Course Nov 20th and 21st

The brilliant Steve Hicks will be playing, but I am not too sure of the other guys. if you know what they do and can recommend their gig - I'll know which ones not to miss.

Derren Nauendorf and Dave Downing
Eric Roche
Lou Stonehill
John Goldie
Adrian Byron Burns
Pete Smith and dave Buckley

Pete Smith and JOHN Buckley

They are NOT to be missed! Not only are they excellent guitarists, but their live show is filled with lots of humour and the banter between them has caused me to laugh until the tears came. The instrumental interplay between them reminds me of the kinds of stuff Swarb and Carthy used to do; it's more of a conversation than just a duet.

I don't know the others, but Pete and John are incredible.

Eric Roche is unique and very definitely world class. We're lucky still to have him following his recent brush with cancer. Three weeks ago he was given his first All Clear!

I've seen him three times since he returned to gigging in September. He was awesome before his lay-off: he's retuned with a passion enthusiasm and energy that are truly amazing.

Why haven't you heard of him? Probably because his style is unique and doesn't necessarily fit into any mould.

Adrian Byron Burns is superb! We supported him a couple of times last year - wow, what playing! And, for that matter, what a voice! You can find his website here!

I saw Derren Nauendorf and Dave Downing at Broadstairs FF. Very good act, well worth seeing. IIRC I think Pete Smith and Dave Buckley were there as well - if they're who I think they are then they're excellent jazz players.

Graham.

Weelittle drummer - let me tell you of the best guitar set I have ever seen from Eric or anyone ever.

The set had been brilliant: Eric had introduced his last piece with the comment that he had just about enough energy left to perform it. It was a version of 'smells like teen spirit' Nirvana. It's a bit tongue in cheek because he plays lead bass rhythm and drums simultaneously...

Threequarters through his bass string broke and got tangled in the other strings. Without missing a beat, he reached to his mic radio control, turned it up, and said (superfluosly) ' I just broke a string - let's see if I can manage withoutit'. At which he disentangled the broken string and pulled it out of the way, all without missing a beat, 'I need a low D' ...retuned the fifth string right down to D - and finished the piece. The place erupted.

What is his style - unique. his history is classical guitar as a child, heavily influenced by his upbringing playing Irish music, now plays acoustic. Writes most of his stuff..

Am I a fan - you betcha!

Adrian Byron Burns is an excellent technical guitarist but I found his style mannered; every song sounded the same, no variety in the one live performance I've seen of his. I was disappointed. If you like, say, Terry Callier, who also has an individual style he bends each song to, then I'm sure you'd enjoy ABB.

Just want to thank everybody who contributed to this thread. I was late on the first day and got tied up looking at the new products and the evening show was sold out - so I didn't see anybody.

Because of your help I returned the next day. I think Adrian was the only one I didn't get to see but all the others were terrific. I enjoyed it very much and I wouldn't have returned, had it not been for the enthusiastic endorsements of Mudcatters.

thanks again
