Hi Ludo,
I'm sure there are others on Mudcat who do know what this song is just from the title but I don't own that album so I'm not sure what song you mean.

Is it one of these?
CHARLIE MACPHERSON A
CHARLIE IS MY DARLING
Charlie O Charlie (thread)

have you tried searching for 'Charlie' (or 'Charley') by typing in the 'Lyrics and knowledge search' box to the top right of your screen?

Plenty of songs come up there and you might be able to find the one you want. If you know more of the lyrics you may be able to narrow down the search and see if there have been any previous threads discussing this song.

Or if you post more of the lyrics on this thread then other people may add more info here...

Jess

is it perhaps the one I quoted in a thread on Jacobite songs, So Dear Is My Charlie to Me?

Shirley Collins' album "Sweet England," which was originally released in 1959, has recently been re-released as a CD. It contains CHARLIE. I transcribed this from a sound sample at allmusic:
How old are you, my pretty little miss? How old are you, my honey?
If I don't die of a broken heart, I'll be sixteen on Sunday.
Oh, rink-to-my-dink to my diddle-die-dum, rink-to-my-dink to my doodle.
Rink-to-my-dink to my diddle-die-dum, and a rink-to-my-dink to my doodle.

Now can you court, my pretty little miss, and can you court, my...?
This is obviously related to FLY AROUND, MY PRETTY LITTLE MISS, WEEVILY WHEAT, and I'M SEVENTEEN COME SUNDAY, all of which appear in old threads. (Follow the links to the those threads and then to other threads that contain other versions.)

It's surprising to see this song called CHARLIE, since Charlie is only briefly mentioned near the end of some of these songs.

My transcription from the song heard on Spotify:

CHARLIE
As sung by Shirley Collins on "Sweet England" (originally issued 1959; reissued 2010)

Oh, Charlie's neat and Charlie's sweet and Charlie he's a dandy,
And ev'ry time he goes to town, he brings me sugar candy.

And I don't want none o' your weevily wheat; I don't want none o' your barley.
Just take some flour in a half an hour and bake a cake for Charlie.

It's Charlie here and it's Charlie there, Charlie over the ocean.
Oh, Charlie he'll be back again if he don't change his notion.

My pretty little pink, I once did think I'd never do without you.
But since I lost all ... of you, I care very little about you.

Now can you court, my pretty little miss, and can you court, my flower?
I'll court more in a minute and a half that you can in an hour.

Oh, rink-to-my-dink, etc.

Will you marry me, my pretty little miss? Will you marry me, good lookin'?
I'll marry you but I won't do your washin' or your cookin'.

Oh, rink-to-my-dink, etc.

Oh, Charlie, he's a nice young man; Charlie he's a dandy,
And ev'ry time he goes to town, he brings me sugar candy.

And I don't want none o' your weevily wheat; I don't want none o' your barley.
Just take some flour in a half an hour and bake a cake for Charlie.

It's Charlie here and it's Charlie there, Charlie over the ocean,
Oh, Charlie he'll be back again if he don't change his notion.

Thank you Jim. Should the fourth verse go: "But since I lost all hopes of you..." ?
