Add a tablespoon of brandy before bedtime and you will sleep easier. Make sure you have the tissues with lotion so your nose doesn't get all red and crusty. Make yourself a bed in front of the TV and rest. If the nastiness appears to be settling in your chest, see a doctor. Same if you have fever and chills - all signs of pneumonia. Hot chicken soup, homemade if you have someone to make it. Low salt if it comes from a can. And check in with me periodically so I know you are OK. And whine away. There is nothing worse than a headcold except maybe the flu. |

20 Nov 04 - 01:42 PM (#1333739) Subject: RE: BS: I'm sick From: Mudlark Another vote here for snorting saltwater.... about 1/4 t. to 4-5oz. water warm enough to dissolve salt. It can also be a good preventative if taken early enough. Makes your eyes water and you want to be sure the bathroom door is well closed and loved ones out of earshot. But it really does work. Keep lots of tissue handy, as it will loosen everything up considerably! Also good for the complexion. (As long as you don't burn your face off.) |

I know what it's like to feel so lousy and the one who used to put up with the whining isn't here to make it better- or whine back. Even being sick is worse now, isn't it? My best remedy- the hottest bath you can stand for as long as you can stand it. Immerse yourself up to the earlobes- then quick, get into bed and sweat it off. Hopefully the bath will make you sleepy enough to get some good rest, too. Hang in there, buddy. You can whine here as much as you need to. Or perhaps your silence since your initial thread is a good sign- keep off the computer and just rest, rest, rest! Sending warm and healing thoughts... Allison |
20 Nov 04 - 07:48 PM (#1334069) Subject: RE: BS: I'm sick From: Stilly River Sage What SueB said for all of you with horrible head colds: if you can stand to stand for a few minutes, take a hot shower. Standing with the water beating down on your forehead will help your sinuses feel better and the hot steam will break up some of the congestions. A vaporizer in the room is also a big help when you're trying to sleep. The bowl of hot water is a good thing to do between showers. The zinc lozenges work for me, if I suck on a couple right when I begin to feel the first symptoms. SRS |

I'll go to the doctor tomorrow because I know that a sinus infection is very serious. In the meantime, Raptor, I hope you are not as miserable as I am. I have had a lot of visitors the last few days and I am so sick that I don't even care. I just want them to go home and let me wallow in my own misery and I really don't want to spread this around. 21 Nov 04 - 09:47 PM (#1334869) Subject: RE: BS: I'm sick From: Mary in Kentucky I'm sick too! But it's only a cold this time, first one I've had in years. I like to treat myself to a hot lemonade with Bourbon. Since Bardstown is the Bourbon capital of the world, we have a cabinet full of samples. Then I eat cherry cough drops like candy. There was also a nice nap today. Two weeks ago I had a...what I call a virus...and Hubby laughs at my terminology because I always use that term for fever/chills/intestinal woes. This stupid thing lasted with fever for three days, so it must not have been the flu. But my problem the last few years has been fluid on my ears which causes vertigo. If you've never had it, it's like severe sea sickness. Antihistamines didn't help much this time. I live near the allergy capital of the world (Louisville, KY for spring allergies), and I suspect it's high on the list for fall allergies. I've been lucky all my life to not have the allergy problems that nearly half my friends have. |
