22 Nov 04 - 01:07 PM (#1335407) Subject: Welsh tune (trnaslation/pronunciation) From: Chris Green We've recently started playing a tune that rejoices under the title of "Mae mwh'n d'welyd". Any Cymrophone catters out there who can tell me a) how to pronounce it and b) what it means? I know "mae" means "is" but the rest doesn't seem to appear in my Welsh dictionary. Is it because some of the words are mutated? (I know this happens but I don't know much about the rules for mutating initial consonants of words). Thanks in anticipation Chris |

Find Pat Smith or Vicki & Trefor at Bedworth and they may come up with some more info - spelling and pronunciation will vary around the country. All the best |

"they say the moon is made of cheese". Is it, "maen nhw'n dwedyd ac yn sôn ..."? If you want a full translation, you'd have to send the full set of words. Working from memory, it's a sequence of penillion (verses) which vary according to the preferences of the singers or whoever's book you're working from. I'll be happy to help.
