Gotta ask Bob; too late to ask Andy.

Are we talking about the Tony Clifton who was a character on the spoof TV shows of years back---America Tonight (possibly wrong name) with Martin Mull.

Oh, if only the would re air those episodes and the Mary Hartman ones from whence it came.

I don't know. Who is Tony Clifton? (Not a joke answer; I never heard of him.)

"If I've made just one person happy, then it's all been worth it." Tony Clifton

I'll take his word for it. He does sound awesome.

*grin*... don't need to rave about Tony....he did enough on his own. (And Andy wouldn't have..)

Sounds just like something the fictional Tony Clifton of America Tonight would have said---him being---as he billed himself---huge in the tri county area and appearing regularly at a Holiday Inn near you. All the while dressed in his tacky blue tux and doing a bad imitation of a bad lounge singer. Funny stuff.

So--now the question is which came first--not the chicken or the egg, but the Andy --Clifton---or the America Tonight version.

Who cares? The main thing is, Tony Clifton is the most amazing thing since sliced eggs! He even rivals William Shatner.

Actually--my error. The show was America2Night and also Fernwood Tonight---the character's name was Tony Rolletti.   The actor was also a recurring character ---years later---on Frasier.

Andy actually met Tony for the first time when Tony was crawling out of his asshole. Or was Andy crawling out of Tony's asshole? Who cares............

I fail to see what's funny about it, Spaw. Tony would never have nothing to say. Never. He's never at a loss for words. That must have been some pathetic wannabe pretending to be Tony Clifton.

I don't have anything to say, either--just want to stand up and be counted with Tony's other fans, if any--

Have you all read Zmuda's book? Just great---Andy was one of a kind---and Clifton was None of a kind.   They both became him at times.

The one thing I still do not understand---seriously---was REM's tribute song to Andy. Never got it.
