BS: The end of Hull

03 Dec 04 - 08:49 AM (#1346261)
Subject: BS: The end of Hull
From: Hand-Pulled Boy

In the year 2006 most of Hull will be under water due to coastal erosion and rising sea levels. As Spurn Head is breached the natural protection of Holderness will have been removed and the North sea will quickly make inroads, swamping all in it's path. Whole communities will be lost to the sea. There is no need to be alarmed yet. Enjoy Christmas and all of the panic buying that goes with it. Remember the shops will be shut for two days, and in many cases only one. Many people in the world are starving or being wiped out by natural disasters. Terrorism is a world wide threat and many world leaders have blinkered vision and greed. The environment is rapidly changing and every day species of animal, fish, birds and insects become extinct.

I know it's still early December but Merry Christmas to all.

Correct young Dereck! I lived on Spurn Point for 10years and was well away of what is going to happen sooner rather than later. Most Hullites don't seem to be aware of the fact that most of this lovely town is BELOW sea level.

Hull ? lovely ? surely an oxymoron.

It's full of northerners and stinks of fish.

True Raggy, BUT the sea levels are a bloody sight higher now, ie several feet at high tide. When I was a kid in Withernsea, the sea rarely reached the promenade wall at high tide, now it's half way up it, rise of at least 10foot.

If I make it big enough, there should be space for a few people, to help me feed the hamsters etc, you should know about hamsters, and not fart to much [in small space, if all farting it will ruin the air], you should like flok music as well, just write your name here if you intrested, [also= no non smokers, and no vegitarians allowed].

'Twas the night before Christmas and Santa's a wreck...
How to live in a world that's politically correct?

His workers no longer would answer to "Elves."
"Vertically Challenged" they were calling themselves.

And labor conditions at the North Pole
Were alleged by the union to stifle the soul.

Four reindeer had vanished, without much propriety,
Released to the wilds by the Humane Society.

And equal employment had made it quite clear
That Santa had better not use just reindeer.

So Dancer and Donner, Comet and Cupid,
Were replaced with four pigs, and you know that looked stupid!

As an inhabitant of the highest point on the South bank of the Humber I look forward to global warming. I shall live on a sub tropical island off the coast of South Yorkshire with my yacht moored to the back garden fence. Property values will boom and I'll be able to afford armed guard to prevent the boat people from Hull seeking refuge. Throw away those old fridges, get yourself a 4WD for the school run, carry on wasting resources. you know it makes sense

Horrors! I knew it. Hull is doomed. I am going to advise anyone I know in Hull to move inland at once! Aunt Penelope has assured me that Twillingsgate is far enough inland that no tidal wave could possibly threaten us, so I am staying right here where it's safe.

I said, "But what about a tidal bore coming up the river?"

Uncle Winston said, "The only tidal bore we have to worry about around here is that prat, Bertie Matchless. I can deal with him."

That made us all laugh heartily! :->

I don't think Les and Maggies Ark is needed just yet but it's a great idea to plan for the future. Maybe we can sail down to Warwick folk festival in a few weeks...our 'regular chariots' MOT is due soon.

Hopefully it would be a pair of banjo players, one male and one female, so that they could produce a whole family of banjo players from bass to treble.

The news reports of the flooding look horrible, and it's more horrible to hear that the pubs are closing. Whatever will you poor souls do? Should we start packing up a shipping crate with beer and ale?
