BS: 'You go to war with the Army you...

have..." (Donald Rumsfeld).

Like whats this supposed to mean? Hey, it was Rumsfeld in the leafd up to the war who was poo-pooing the Pentagon's advice on boots on the ground. This guy, who has never been in so much as a fist fight, thinks he's some Paton 'er Stonewall Jackson. He ain't. He knows nuthin' about military science (for lack of a better term) and it is now showing.

So his comment "As you know, you go to war with the Army you have" is very troubling. When does anyone in the Bush administration just say "We screwed up"? Answer..... Never... It always someone elese's fault...

So Donnie Rumsfelf wants to blame the Army? Fine. Why not blame Bill Clinton? 'Er Donald Duck?

I'm so sick of there losers, who have somehow convinced enough uneducated losers to let them run the show, bob-n-weave when it comes to accountability.

Time to quit blaming others fir their screw ups...

It is only the army's fault if they're losing........
What does that tell ya?

Rumsfeld tried to spin the incident as an example that liberty is alive and well among US troops.

Right Wing radio has spun it as a shameful reporter putting words in the mouth of an inexperienced soldier.

In this new age of US pre emptive invasions and legalized torture the person who speaks out is in greater jeopardy than in the WW II American Army.

Last week a 49 year old career soldier asked how he should report incidents of torture. He was strapped to a gurney. placed in an aircraft and flown to parts unknown.

Liberty now only goes as far as the order for loyalty allows.

A good rule of thumb is if Rumsfeld involkes a certain strong word or concept - then the opposite is probably true.

Those poor bloody kids doing their country's bidding in Iraq--being directed by someone like that. Deja vu all over again.

Well, he's right. You go with what you got. BUT! you do your damnedest to insure that what you got is what you need and should have. That didn't happen here and now the grunts are paying for it with their eyes, their arms, their legs, and their lives.

Does anyone else remember last summer, when a bunch of reservists were trying to outfit their vehicles with locally-produced armor before they were deployed and their actions were deplored by the Pentagon?

Okay, old timer's time. When my NG unit was activated back in '68, prior to deployment we took everything we thought we might need, including a barber chair painted green and black. We took extra ammo, private weapons, whatever we thought would make the deployment a) safer and b) more comfortable. Especially safer. Most especially safer. And once in-country, members scrounged, swapped, and did everything but steal (and they did that from the Special Forces) stuff that would make it a) safer and b) more comfortable. From talking with the folks who deployed out of here around the 4th of July, they did the same things we did: a) safer and b) more comfortable.

I believe that was Rumsfeld's way of saying, "Stop whining!"

I think they're going to need a whole new set of recuiting posters. . . .

FYI Don, although I see that gurney story here, the article is attributed to David DeBatto of Salon.com, and even though I see an interview with the author himself about the article ("Whitewashing Torture"), I can't find the story anywhere on salon.com, which is a bit strange.
