dumb question about recordable dvd

Just got one of those machines to record on dvd from the telly.

Now if I don't want to re-edit, could I record a programme I wanted to keep on one of those cheap discs that I burn music on off my computer?

No, them "cheap discs you burn music on your computer" are CDR's, your DVD machine uses DVDR's, the 2 are not interchangeable.

DVDRs are not that expensive these days...

What's the name brand and modle number of the DVD recorder you have WLD? And well, have you tried reading the owners manual? I'll bet this is covered in there somewhere...

Stu your paying too much!

85p - £1.05 DVDRW (+ or -)

and less for larger quantity or special offers

my new machine glories in the name espejo R311 and I got it from sainsbury's for a hundred quid.

the instruction book contains a lot of information - not all set out quite where you expect.

anyway thanks for your help.

Well, I've read the Content Table of the manual for this thing... and I have to admit, I have no idea what "not all set out quite where you expect" even means....   All the info you want/need is there...

I suppose what I meant is that manuals have certain conventions.

Something along the lines of.....

Thank you and congratulations for buying the dogshit 301. This machine will give you years untramelled pleasure, improve the quality of your life, and by and large it is made by damn good chaps.etc blah blah blah Your statutory rights are not affected

and when a technological change is en train....

If previously you have been using a a role of selotape and a backscratcher for recording tv programmes.......

I may have overlooked these sections in the manual.

DVDRs 19p each (100's)

Hi Al.

Normally I get them from local computer fair but John's son got the last lot from the above as he wanted Full Face printables.

I picked up a Philips DVD recorder a couple of months ago, it uses +DVDR/W but has a built in 80gig hard drive as well - which is handy for taking out ads etc. prior to writing DVDr

That's me, convention every time - ignore them at our peril. they're lucky I didn't feed it doughnuts.

Thanks Pete, I will hi me hence to a computer fair.

Anything else I need to know?

Al - if you use DVD(-/+)RWs you can view them on "any" DVD player without finalizing and edit (I would think) in your recorder the last batch I bought were 80p each and Makro have then for about £1 they're more like VCR cassettes in that way and about the same price, you can also record "over" them as well.

I'm slowly transfering 23 years of "Home Video" over to DVD at the moment.

If you have a DVD recorder in your computer the new Nero has a video editing suite included and if you don't have a video input on your PC you can use DVD-RWs to transfer your recordings or a cheap USB interface.

As most of the home video was already edited it's just a straight forward back to back copy from the Video recorder/camera to DVDrs - just stick 'em on and come back 3 hours later.

If you have a camera you can practise/record all them songs to DVD-RW then sit back and watch/listen to 'em later :-)
