Lyr Req: Waltz of the Flowers

Subject: Waltz of the Flowers-lyrics?
From: GUEST,Sheila

I used to kmow words that matched the music from "The Nutcracker". Such phrases as "Flowers swaying, music playing", "And forget-me-nots remembering," are some. Does anyone know more, or where I might find them? Thanks. Happy Holidays.

?I think it was it the Carpenters who had a Christmas album with words set to pieces of the Nutcracker.
I seem to remember a cartoon as well, but too long ago to remember who did the music.

the cartoon would be Fantasia, a Disney flick.

I have Fantasia on VHS, but I was thinking of an old comic short. In the early days of VHS, many of the old movie shorts were issued on tape, and I picked them up at goodwill stores. I gave them a quick look to see if they were working and sent them on to a daughter for her kid. I may have seen it there, as several had classical music parodies. Oh, well, 'too olt' memory problems.

Fantasia didn't have any lyrics per se...

I'm pretty sure -- not absolutely -- that *none* of the music in the animated film Fantasia featured vocals/lyrics. I'm slightly more sure that the Nutcraker section is instrumental-only.

Played by the Philadelphia Orchestra under the direction of (I think) Leopold Stokowski.

Except that the video of Fantasia no longer includes the music of that orchestra. It was rerecorded in digital stereo as it was thought that the old music was not hoity toity enough. Some of we Music purists would much rather hear the mono recording-just the way Maestro Stokowski conducted it.

"Lillies lilting, tulips tilting, and forget-me-nots remembering. Poppies playing, ..."
I had a 78 RPM record in about 1952 that had the whole Nutcracker with words and I had most of it memorized. It most definitely did exist and I wish I had a copy now.

Lyr. Add: The Waltz of the Flowers
Lyric Al Dubin, music Harry Warren

The daisies are dancing
A rose is romancing
A shy little violet blue;
Carnations are swaying,
The lilacs are playing
The waltz that I'm dancing with you.
The bluebells are ringing,
The tulips are singing
An old-fashioned song that is new.
Flowers glide
Side by side
While I waltz with you.

Interlude:

Springtime blossoms
Alll dressed in white,
And jolly hollyhocks
Put on their gayest frocks;
Morning glories
Dance through the night,
There's one forget-me-not
That all the rest forgot;

Chorus 2

The daisies are dancing
A rose is romancing
A shy little violet blue;
Carnations are swaying,
The lilacs are playing
The waltz that I'm dancing with you.
The bluebells are ringing,
The tulips are singing
An old-fashioned song that is new.
Flowers glide
Side by side
While I waltz with you;
And it all comes true
When I waltz with you.

Sorry-
Waltz Flowers
And nothing to do with the Nutcracker. The music is not the same (reminiscent, maybe). Well, maybe a little more than reminiscent, Mr. Warren.

May be music by Igor Stravinski? (Waltz of the flowers, 1914, piano for 4 hands.)

Nutcracker Suite track 7 on "Spike Jones Is Murdering the Classics."
Thanks for solving this one, Julia!

I just realized over Christmas that the Spike Jones "Classics" album has an abbreviated version
The full 20 minute version is on the album collection "Spiked" which also includes some hilarious other stuff.
I'm always amazed to think these guys recorded live with no overdubs!

I remember listening to the old 78 record with the words for Waltz of the Flowers. Did you find the lyrics?

The Spike Jones is not the version the op requested - it doesn't contain the desired lyrics.

The version desired is the Fred Waring version: Fred Waring - Nutcracker Suite. Waltz of the Flowers starts at ca 5:36.

The credits can be found here Fred Waring Nutcracker, saying "Tchaikovsky's beloved Nutcracker Suite is given a twist as performed by Fred Waring and the Pennslyvanians. Conceived by arranger Harry Simeone he combines the charming lyrics written by Jay Johnson, Frank Cunkle, Daisy Bernier and Fred Waring. The arrangement was debuted on October 27, 1947 on Waring's radio program for General Electric and recorded for Decca Records later that year. It has been delighting audiences ever since. The performance heard here was originally broadcast August 19, 1948."

Lyrics for the Waltz of the Flower are below (taken from Fred Waring - Nutcracker and tidied up by me. Lyrics for all movements are in the post there).

Mick

WALTZ OF THE FLOWERS
(Music: PI Tchaikovsky, Words: Jay Johnson, Frank Cunkle, Daisy Bernier and Fred Waring)

Hark to the woodland call.
Come to the Waltz of the Flowers.
Ev'ry little flower on the hill;
Ev'ry little yellow daffodil
Hurries to the wonderful waltz of the flowers.

Here by the garden wall
Roses will waltz with magnolias.
Violets and morning glories fair,
Mignonettes and orchids will be there.
All the world of flow'rs
join in this wonderful waltz.

And ev'ryone is singing, swinging, dancing,
Whirling, swirling, prancing,
Bending, blending, glancing,
Side by side, to the melody they glide.

Lilies lilting, tulips tilting,
And forget-me-nots remembering;
Poppies playing, dahlias swaying,
And gardenias are saying "Dance, flowers, dance!
Dance while the music brings romance."
The melody flows,
The harmony grows,
Designing a magic spell to the rhythmic beat.

Dance, flow'rs, dance!
As delicate perfume fills the air.
Enchanted with
Love is calling you,
Love enthralling you,
Love had come from the flowers.

Lilies lilting, tulips tilting,
And forget-me-nots remembering;
Poppies playing, dahlias swaying,
As the trees above are rustling in rhythm.

While ev'ryone is singing, swinging, dancing,
Whirling, swirling, prancing,
Bending, blending, glancing,
Side by side they glide.

As they hark to the woodland call.
Come to the waltz of the flowers!
Here by the garden wall,
Join in these magical hours.

Blooms in all their splendor,
Bending in surrender.
Then the symphony with majesty
Soars higher in triumph,
With petals flashing,
Color splashing,
Swirling, unfurling,
And caught in the whirl
Of this wonderful waltz of the flow'rs.

Fred Waring’s singers sang those lyrics. We used to have a 78 rpm record of it

I remember our 1960s era high school choir class attempting to sing the sheet music, probably a Fred Waring publication. I think it was for women's voices, SSA parts (soprano second soprano, alto). It is tricky to sing that melody and we never "performed it" because it was probably too difficult.

But I do remember the lyrics "forget-me-nots remembering" and "every little flower on the hill, every little yellow daffodil."

Thank you Mick Pearce for printing the entire lyrics.

I know this was so long ago this thread was active but I am so thankful I found it. I was honestly convinced the song existed nowhere else because I haven’t been able to find it anywhere else. My choir and I are learning it for our Christmas concert and I’m super happy to find others who’ve also heard of this version of waltz of the flowers!

I'm so happy to find this! My mother, born in the 40s, had a record set from her childhood that I listened to when I was little. I don't know what happened to it, but I knew the song & the sleeve had these lyrics printed on it. The only line I could remember was "Every little yellow daffodil". This thread just made my day!

Having trouble finding a different version. the lyrics I can make out go something like:

love me love me love me
when I saw my darling
say that you'll be true
you're the one I waited for
hold me hold me hold me
let your arms engulf me?
say you'll never leave me
love me love me never let you go

now and forevermore,
I will be living to love you
make my life divine(?) say you're mine,
love me life was meant for two

love me love me love me
say you're -???-
tell me you adore me
love me love me never let me go

now and forevermore,
I will be living to love you
make my life divine(?) say you're mine,
love me life was meant for two

love me love me love me
say you're -???-
say that you adore me
love me love me never let you go
