17 Dec 04 - 05:59 AM (#1359507) Subject: Judy Collins and Animagerra- on stage! From: AllisonA(Animaterra) Last night I directed our local children's choir on stage as the back-up singers for Judy Collins (on tour in our little local city)! We formed the group for this purpose, and it's been a long, hard journey- definitely top of the list of "one too many things to do" at times. But after last night, it was worth it! When she grabbed my hand and pulled me up to the front of the stage for a final bow, it was a peak experience! I may never wash that hand again... Allison |

From: open mike well, bless your heart! i guess the date has been removed from this list already.. but it is so great to know that you have had the honor of singing (and bowing) with Judy! http://www.judycollins.com/concerts.cgi too bad your mom was not able to be there in person, but i bet it cheers her just to know ! I have been to a judy collins concert, and heard her PBS special (NPR?) i think it was at wolf trap. what a wonderful person, musician, etc. see bio here: http://www.judycollins.com/biography.html Jusy has endured more than we will ever know, yet has the strenght to comfort others; "Judy's new book, Sanity and Grace, A Journey of Suicide, Survival and Strength, is a deeply moving memoir, focusing on the death of her only son and the healing process following the tragedy. The book speaks to all who have endured the sorrow of losing a loved one before their time. In the depths of her suffering, Judy found relief by reaching out to others for help and support. Now, she extends her hand to comfort other survivors whose lives have been affected by similar tragedy." http://judycollins.com/sanity_and_grace/ |

17 Dec 04 - 02:35 PM (#1359895) Subject: RE: Judy Collins and Animaterra- on stage! From: Big Mick I'm with you, George. I think this type of thing is long overdue. Allison is one of those stalwarts who just do what they do because they love the music. These are the people who make our music live, and Collins is smart enough and good enough to acknowledge this. Doesn't surprise any of us though. Good on ya, dear friend. I am proud and happy for you. Mick |

17 Dec 04 - 06:50 PM (#1360048) Subject: RE: Judy Collins and Animaterra- on stage! From: Mary in Kentucky Congratulations Allison! ...May I tell a Judy Collins concert story? I heard her at an outdoor concert (picnic in the park type thing) just a few years ago. My friend J. and I sat on the front row, but some jerk behind us kept up a constant chatter. Being the "nice" person I am, I just sat in my seat and fumed. My friend, bless her soul, turned around and said, "We came to hear Judy sing and would appreciate some respect." I'm envious of your experience! |

18 Dec 04 - 03:38 PM (#1360605) Subject: RE: Judy Collins and Animaterra- on stage! From: AllisonA(Animaterra) Weird- this morning I made a long post and it never appeared! Oh, well, I'll try to reconstruct. We sang: Joy to the World Silver Bells Let it Snow What Child is this 2 by Judy: Kingdom Come (a very hard song honoring the firefighters of 9/11) Come rejoice Hark the Herald Amazing Grace At 65, she's still amazing. Still has the voice I adored when I was 12. Gracious and funny, paying lots of attention to the kids while they were on stage with her. It was so wonderful to work for 10 weeks with these 50 kids who were selected out of all the kids in the town where I teach. They grew musically, and what a joy to work with such pure, lovely voices. I know they'll never forget the experience. Over the years my musical tastes and hers have diverged somewhat. But I have to say that it was a highlight of my life so far, to work so closely with this classy, gorgeous lady. Allison |

18 Dec 04 - 04:01 PM (#1360630) Subject: RE: Judy Collins and Animaterra- on stage! From: wysiwyg Our little town has big name performers come sometimes too, and grant money to tour like that is part of what keeps some of these folks performing fulltime. It's usual to incorporate local choirs, but it's NOT usual to find them able to do good work-- it's a wonderful and pleasant surprise for them the rare times they run into someone like Allison. I know she'll tell us the kids did the work, not herself, but I know Judy knew who to appreciate for making her night! ~S~ |
