I usually start with three ounces of milk thus necessitating twelve ounces of scotch. Two glasses of that and I'm ready for me bed. |

Or there's always Baileys and the various Baileys clones - whiskey, cream and honey and so forth. People who get all reverential about (alcoholic) spirits seem to me to have hold of the wrong end of the stick. These are ingredients to be used in whatever way seems most appropriate at the time. Ingredients in life, and ingredients in food and drink as well. |

The most ridiculous tasting notes I've ever come across described a wine as having the taste of the feeling of someone who has just left the room. I like Drambuie. I also like a really good bitter of about 5%. I wold kill for 18 yo Glenturret single malt. |

By definition, ounces are a dry measure, for liquids you need a measure by volume - i.e. litres (or pints in old money)! Presumably these guys don't go to the corner-shop and ask for a pound of milk, so why measure alcoholic drinks in ounces? Makes no sense. LOL! |

23 Dec 04 - 01:12 PM (#1364261) Subject: RE: BS: Mouthwash: non-political thread From: PoppaGator 1) A shot, or jigger, is one-and-one-half fluid ounces. I'm very sorry to learn that the "English" system of measures has already been forgotten by English adults, and that we Americans have to carry on this archaic tradition by ourselves. 2) "The doctor got me on/ He got me on milk/ cream/ and alco-ho-o-o-ol" -- John Lee Hooker, "Serve You Right to Suffer" I'm sure that John Lee's song predates, and is probably consciously quoted by, Nick Lowe's. Hooker and Van Morrison once recorded a great duet version of "Serve You Right to Suffer." 3) Milk and alcohol isn't all *that* weird a combination. Consider the White Russian, Brandy Alexander, and that Mardi Gras Morning favorite, Brandy Milk Punch. I'm partial to Irish whiskey and milk (or half-and-half); especially since having my throat ravaged by invasive medical treatment, it's become difficult for me to knock back straight whiskey. I also recommend Irish plus coffee liqueur (Kahlua or generic equivalent) with milk -- same as a White Russian but substituting whiskey for vodka (or, you could think of it as Irish Coffee without the coffee). In the film "The Great Lebowski," the title character has a serious White Russian habit, and refers to his drink of choice as a "Caucasian." Makes sense, since the word "Caucasian" refers both to the "white" "race" and to a mountain range near the southwestern border of Russian and well within the boundaries of the former Soviet Union. I've taken to calling my variation an "Irish Caucasian," but perhaps someone could suggest a better name. |

23 Dec 04 - 02:59 PM (#1364340) Subject: RE: BS: Mouthwash: non-political thread From: PoppaGator Naah, the whiskey doesn't hurt the milk at all, just improves it. Besides the milk-based drinks already mentioned, consider that seasonal favorite, egg nog. Booze + dairy = no problem. Also, pre-mixed cordials like Bailey's are made with whiskey and cream. Now, I once met a man who drank *gin* and milk. Now, THAT's weird! |
