BS: For People Having Rough Holidays

Hugs, jokes, clickable music therapy, clickable art therapy, anyone?

Surely I can't be the only person around here who could use a few.

Susan,

Our holiday band (The Bittersweet Christmas Band) is just winding down a busy December. These are no doubt things you've seen/heard before but always good:

What do you call Santa's little helpers?

Subordinate Clauses!

Why are Santa's helpers always going to the psychiatrist's?

Low Elf-esteem!

What goes ho, ho, ho, thud?

Santa laughing his head off!

Also, think of Da Yoopers song "One Day After Christmas" with the great line in the chorus: "I love the decorations and the sleighbells and the snow, But I wish those pesky relatives, would take their kids and go." (To a nice do-wop harmony).

Merry Christmas.

Probably just as well to skip the Mudcat Tavern for a while--it has gotten messy and dangerous this year.

Instead, here's a little Bubble Wrap to pass the time. (The site has some bizarre variations, suitable for Spaw. They make you poke around in the site a little before you find the game unless you download it.)

Thanks! That was quick, you guys! And SRS, thanks for the heads-up on the Tavern.

Cheers from sunny Beverley, England. This Christmas will be a good one for me, but thanks to divorce etc etc I have had a few bloody awful ones!

Susan...Yesterday a friend brought me a tiny "dreambox" with instructions. Write your dearest dream on a bit of paper, put it in the box, and the box by your bed. Every night before sleep, and on arising, hold the box and declare with all your heart that your dream will be realized. Such a nice way to practice affirmations (the more usual ways always make me feel sort of silly). Though somewhat uncomfortable with a lot of new age notions, I do think that "intent" has great power to influence reality. So I'm sending you a virtual dream box. If you decide to use it, remember you don't have to stick with lofty global hopes for world peace...a Cristmas day full of peace and happiness and fulfillment for your own good self is perfectly valid. I'll wish it for you, too, along with hugs and smiles.

Nancy

Hey Susan,
Holidays can be HARD! Here's a hug for you (and you can send one back if you like!). I'm in a new place and not yet reunited with my own bed, couch, and other worldly possessions, and REALLY miss my good friends in D.C., so these holidays have been harder than usual. AND, it doesn't help that terminal cheer and jollity seem to be the only socially acceptable emotions between Thanksgiving and January 2. So I won't tell you to smile or cheer up. I'll just tell you that I wish you warmth and hope wherever you can find it (it can be found sometimes in the least expected places). And if you want to do something extremely silly, search for Elf Bowling on Google (not "Super Elf Bowling" or any of the others. Just "Elf Bowling.") Download it--it's free--and play a couple of games. It is so truly stupid it makes me laugh every time. Love, Kathy

Thanks for that!!!!!! I return the sentiment. I seem to find myself, often, the one lifting others up. It's tiring! People get so nervous when I quit doing it for them... I think I will stock up on those little greeting cards with the annoying music chip, and hand those out on days like this instead.

I'll go put the bumper sticker on--

"Have You Kicked an Elf Today?"

Naw, today is the day to pull out the childhood drawing that you have on a top shelf that has a dinosaur mom and baby, and the baby dinosaur is asking "Have You Hugged Your Mom Today?" :) That, and the little cardboard message "Mom, I love you Mom!" are two favorites (both drawn by four or five year olds) that never fail to pick me up!

For the past week my wife has been in the hospital after lung surgery for cancer. Since we dont celebrate anyway, the fact that she's OK is more than enough for us. The day is good, to hell with the season.

All of BS is therapy in reality. For those who need to scream or merely whisper BS will not judge yo for we know here we are all unique and wondrous.
May disciplined work, BS and hope sustain you when needed and make you happy when not needed.

Well, I guess this thread, at this point in time,
is for Logged-In Mudcat Members Having Rough Holidays,
although everybody else can lurk.

I think this time of year can be rough for a few. People celebrating whatever they celebrate, feasts and presents but others can feel left out in the cold as it where.

I find this version a bit "screechy" but love the carol I learnt from Singing Together in Primary Shcool and I'd guess carols are things you like so try a bit of yodelling

On the 28th I'm flying to Illinois for what I hope is only a week. My sister died on the 18th and the funeral is the 30th. No, it's not a good Christmas Season.

Rap,I'm so sorry.

I knew that when my mom died in '92 I was on my own. I've been lucky enough to have good friends to spend Christmas with. I usually go to Canada, but I'm broke this year, and didn't feel like driving the 11 or 12 hours and then trying to act like a competent human. I miss being there anyway, and I miss spending Christmas with friends. Oddly enough, it's not a big deal. Christmas repast was macaroni & cheese, and it's just a Sunday, and I'm fine. I suppose I just don't feel the pressure that some do. Dunno.
...of course, I've been painting (watercolors) all day, and that certainly helps with the oxytocin.

We no longer make a fuss about Christmas. Jacqui always goes to England to spend the time with her folks. The house is like a tomb, except when my girls drop in, or when the cat, Sam, decides I must play with him.

Captain, you might put in a good word for Sam on the Mudcatters Have Cats thread.
