Lyr Req: Cousin Jack (Show of Hands)

Subject: Lyr Req: Cousin Jack - Show of Hands
From: muppitz

I have recently purchased the double CD album of live performances at Sidmouth Folk Festival, damn good purchase I must say, and my Mum's other half has asked me if I can have a go at getting the Words and Guitar chords to Cousin Jack by Show of Hands.
I have tried a search in the DigiTrad but I have been unsuccessful, if anyone can tell me where they are of if you could supply me with said words/chords then I would be extremely grateful.

Cheers in advance

Steve has published a superb songbook (double) available from his Show of Hands website.

Hi muppitz

I thought these were posted but I couldn't find them anywhere so
these are the words with the chords we use (capo 5).

COUSIN JACK
Words & music by Steve Knightley

(Am)This land is barren and (F)broken
(G)Scarred like the face of the (C)moon (G)
(Am)Our tongue is no longer (Em)spoken
(F)Towns all around face (G)ruin.
(Am)Will there be work in New (F)Brunswick
(G)Will I find gold in the (C)Cape? (G)
(Am)If I tunnel way down to (Em)Australia
(F)Oh will I ever (G)escape?

Chorus:
(C)Where there's a mine or a (G)hole in the ground
(Am)That's where I'm heading for (F)that's where I'm bound
(G)So look for me under the (C)lode and in(G)side the (F)vein (G)
Where the (C)copper the clay the (G)arsenic and tin
(Am)Run in your blood and (F)under the skin
(G)I'll leave the county be(C)hind I'm (G)not coming (F)back
(G)Follow me (F)down cousin (Am)Jack.

The soil was too poor to make Eden
Granite and sea left no choice
Though visions of heaven sustained us
When John Wesley gave us a voice.
Did Joseph once come to St. Michael's mount
Two thousand years pass in a dream
When you're working your way in the darkness
Deep in the heart of the seam

(Chords same as begining of verse)
I dream of a bridge on the Tamar
It open us up to the east
And the English live in our houses
The Spanish fish in these seas

The book shows capo 2 and a number of partial chords to get the full Show of Hands harmony.

can anyone enlighten me as to how the picked intro goes. It's driving me nuts. I know it's the chords Em/C/D/C etc. Thanks

Its easy, learn by ear, until its sore.

Dont get bogged down with replecation !for the intro. The basic chord sequence will suffice

But get the tune and lyrics sorted and learn it thoroughly or Trelawney's boys 'll be bearing down.

They are everywhere

I'd like to know how the intro goes as well. It's in 3/4 but that's about all i've got except the last 3rd and 4th bars. Then again I'm not entirely sure that Mr K plays this exactly the same very time anyway.....
