Does anyone remember the average price of a new 33 RPM record album around 1965ish-1967ish in the USA? Google is mum on the subject, or else I'm entering the wrong key words. Thanks for your help!

I worked for two years in a large record department (anyone remeber the E.J. Korvette discount chain?) from 1966 to 1968.

Mono LPs sold for $2.79

Stereo Lps sold for $3.79

Those highbrow classical albums on labels such as Angel, Duetche Grammaphone, and RCA Red Seal were a buck more at $4.79

45s in that era were usually .69-.79

Next question, please.

Perfect! Thank you very much! Believe me, there WILL be another question when I hit another memory roadblock.

We had E.J. Korvette discount stores in New Jersey. Were they nationwide? I'm assuming that Martin Gibson has always been a Chicagoan (indicating that Korvette covered at least half the country), but that may not be the case.

I was ready to answer $3.95, but I'm not as sure of my answer as MG seems to be of his -- and he worked at the store, I just made an occasional purchase.

In Canada (Toronto specifically)they were going for the $4.00 range in about 1965 ... If I recall that they jumped up to about $7.00 by 1967/68.
