I've emailed Susan (click) before. She responded with a lovely reply, and we have a brief mail exchange as well. It's worth a try!

RIVER, written by Susan McKeown, is performed by Susan McKeown and Natalie Merchant on the various-artists compilation "Celtic Circle, Vol. 2," Windham Hill 2-CD #64590, 2004.

Sound samples are available, but I can't get them to play right now. Time to reboot, I guess.

Prophecy

RIVER
(Susan McKeown)

Bathe me in the waters of the Lagan, of the Boyne
Of the Liffey of the Slaney, of the Barrow, Nore and Suir
Of the Blackwater, the Bann, the Lee, the Shannon, Foyle and Erne
Bathe me in the waters

O bless the water that flows from the fields
into the sea that surrounds aour little isle of green
Hope is a river that flows from these stone walls
into an ocean we have never seen

Hope is a dress that my mother once wore
a fiddle tune I heard that has no words
Hope is the one thing we have never lost
Though we are tired of the old war

Same anger in our hearts, same desolation and loss
Why are we divided
Bind us in friendship so rage will never rise again
In fair Éire between friends

I am only Elevan but I love the way your song really decribes Ireland's rivers as they really are. Also the melody is so soothing I keep listening to your song every time my dad and I drive in the car! I love your song and I will really look for these rivers the next time I go to The Little Isle of Green.

Would anyone be able to help out with chords for this song?
Grada sing this on one of their albums and just sounds lovely, I would love to learn it.

The annoying thing about the Celtic Circle cd is that the song is on the disk I have (which is where I heard it), but since I lost it and want to download it, that song isn't on the track list for some strange reason. Anyone else have this problem, or are there two versions of the CD out there?

Hi, Sabrina-
I found it on the first disc of Celtic Circle, Volume 2.
I see there's also a Celtic Circle 3 (at an outrageous price - must be out of print).
