I'm looking for the words of this song, which I see from previous threads was sung, not sure if written, by Harvey Andrews. Hope you can help.

I think it was one of if not THE first song Mr Andrews wrote . I have the book stashed and will dig it out in the next day or so if no one else gets in first ( Like Mr A himself , who IS a member)

Colour Bar?

"I'll have a shot of red, please, with just a little blue, on ice. Shaken, not stirred."

ISN'T IT SOMETHING LIKE:

HEAR THE SOUND OF LAUGHTER
A-RINGING IN YOUR EARS
A CLASS OF 30 CHILDREN
ALL OF SEVEN YEARS
INDIANS AND HALF CASTES, BLACK AND WHITE THEY ARE
BUT THEY GET ALONG TOGETHER
COS THEY KNOW NO COLOUR BAR...

I suspect some of the lyrics are now considered "politically incorrect":-
"he called me chocolate face and a nigger and a wog, said 'go back home you coloured coon you've got more fleas than my dog'"

You hear the sound of laughter ringing in your ears
A class of forty children all of seven years
Indian and half caste, black and white
But they get along together for they know no colour bar

You walk into the playground on a sunny afternoon
Ten year olds are fighting,it's wrong as they know
He called me chocolate face and a nigger and a wog
He said go back home you coloured coon
You got more fleas than my dog

What happened to those children in those three short years
That colour came between them and forced them to tears
It's not because they feel that they are different after all
It's because their parents taught them there's a difference in their skin
And that mixing up the colous is to them a mortal sin

Repeat first verse

Verse three
What happened to those children in those three short years
That colour came between them forcing them to tears
It' not that they feel different after all
It's because they hear the trumpeting of hate and it's loud call
It' because their parents told them there' a difference in their skin
And that mixing up they colour is to them a mortal sin

I was looking for this a couple of weeks ago, then I found it in a folder-

KIDS COLOUR BAR

You hear the sound of laughter ringing in your ears
A class of forty children all of seven years
Indian and half caste, white and brown they are
But they get along together for they know no colour bar

A couple walk into the room light shining in their eyes
The girl say's she loves Jimmy and she will until she dies
But Jimmy's only seven and his skin is dark in a sight
And the little girl who's with him has a skin so fair and white.

You leave that little couple holding hand in the room
You walk into the playground on a sunny afternoon
Ten year olds are fighting and it's wrong as they knew
But one is white and one is black and blood is on the two.

The fighters separate, and hate is in the air
You ask them why they punch and kick and pull each others hair
He called me chocolate face and a nigger and a wog
Said go back home you coloured coon, you've more fleas than my dog

What happened to those children in those three short years
That colour came between them and force's them to tears
That after those years of fun and walking side by side
A chasm opens up between, so deep, so dark and wide

It's not because they feel that they are different after all
It's because they hear the trumpeting of hate and its loud call
It's because their parents taught them there's a difference in their skin
And that mixing up the colours is to them a mortal sin

Repeat first verse

We were taking about this tonight because I found a recording of Heather Heywood singing it at Kilmarnock Folk Club in the 1970s. She was recalling singing it as a child.
