Hello All,

I am looking (still) for the lyrics to When The Shipyards Go Back On Fulltime by the Irish Rovers. I know its a rewrite of When The Mills are Back On Fultime. Any help is welcome and appreciated.

When The Shipyards Go Back On Full Time

Not quite what the Irish Rovers sing, but near enough.

WHEN THE SHIPYARDS GO BACK ON FULL TIME
Songwriter??

Ah, sure if the news it is true
The shop bill's the first thing I'll pay
A new pair of boots and a warm woolen suit
And a telly for Maggie, horray.
Me old faded shirt I will throw in the dirt
In a silk one, won't I look in style
And the very first chance
I'll put Davy in pants
When the shipyards go back on full time.

Our troubles are over Mrs. woman
For Clancy next door tells me straight
The shipyards go full time on Monday
That's what he says any rate
Sure the boss has just told him this morning
While he was collecting the dole
That a big one is starting in Belfast
And the shipyards are out of the hole.
Ah, sure if.....

Mrs. Campbell throw out your old washtub
The laundry will get all our trade
No more picking coal from the gasworks
We'll buy everything ready made
We'll make this job last until Christmas
Then won't we be living in style
Put another big spud in the soup pot
For the shipyards are back on full time.
Ah, sure if.....

Took only 12 years for that request to be fulfilled!

Is Don still around?

This is derived from the 19th century song from the Pennsylvanian coalfields: 'When the breaker starts up full time'. See this thread: 46778.

On a similar theme, see also 'Last winter was a hard one', sometimes titled 'When McGuinness gets a job'. It was recorded by Joe Hickerson on 'Drive Dull Care Away Vol II'. The lyrics are in the DT.

I have been away from this site for quite awhile. And some how I returned to this thread.

I had worked in a shipyard, well Boatyard building fishing boats for the off shore fisheries in the Atlantic. The economy at the time went to hell and the building boats was disappearing as a way of life for me. The only job I ever loved. Then I heard this song at a concert and thought it would be a good fit in the band I was in. So I asked about the song not finding it anywhere else. Good things are worth waiting for.

Except now I can't find When The Mills are Back On Full time. Oh well, on with the search.
